LOL there is NOT one statement of the above about PARIS that he has correct..

I do know enough about it to know what I like and dislike about it. My friend's dad gave me one of the two manuals he had, so I had been reading quite a bit on it and I downloaded a demo version of it (which is enough to kind of tell how easy it is to work with)(NO ITS NOT!). I'm using cakewalk PA 9 right now( LOL NICE COMPARISON) and I'm used to a lot of the features it has. Some of the things that Paris doesn't have (that I can think of off the top of my head anyway) are the draw audio (pencil) tool(ABSOLUTELY WRONG) and the volume (or pan) envelopes so it's very difficult to match volume when cutting and pasting audio clips.( ANOTHER WRONG STATEMENT) You also can't overlap different audio clips in the same track, when you slide one over it cuts the other one off.(I FOUND THIS ONE THE FUNNEST MISQUOTE OF ALL) This is probably my main concern because I do a LOT of takes and then cut and paste the best parts from each take, so this is a major factor. (DONT YOU THINK WHEN RECORDING A MAJOR ALBUM WE HAVE A SHITLOAD OF TAKES) Another thing is Paris doesn't support MIDI.(BUZZZZZZZZZZ WRONG AGAIN)This is not a big deal right now but I'm learning how to play the keyboard, so in the near future I'm going to want something with MIDI capabilities. I'm not to sure on this one, but from what I've read in the manual you can only have 16 tracks playing at once, even in free form mode you have to assign each track to 1 of 16 instruments which corresponds to 1 of the control 16 faders. So even though you can record more than that, only the track with the highest priority on each of the 16 tracks is going to play, but I may be wrong on this. (FUNNY I HAVE A PROJECT THAT HAS 37 TRACKS AND THEY ALL SEEM TO PLAYBACK JUST FINE.) (Man seriously think about it this is PRO software its not fucking cakewalk do you really think that a system that is being used to record albums and is in million dollar studios cant do any of this...)

I already have an idea of what I want to get for my next software program anyway. I'm looking at the SEK'D Sequoia which has incredible editing features on it, so "for me" Paris just is just something I can't afford or understand.

Sorry about the heavy slamming here but I just get annoyed when people misinform others about something they have NO clue about and I mean NO clue.... If this post were about Logic and were this wrong I would jump in as well so its not just a PARIS thing its an ignorance thing.

Oh gidge I wish I had an endorsment ;-) But I do work with it every single day and use it in a different realm then most people on the bbs. I work in a few studios and assist TOP engineers in learning how to use PARIS. You wouldnt belive the amount of studios switching over from all kinda of systems(including from PT) I also work part time for a Pro audio consultant selling PARIS systems and demo them in detail all the time...

Oh p.s. anyone wanting a PARIS system I could prob hook um up with a good deal.

If I hit that lottery, Ill be giving you a call.....Paris with some good mics and tube outboard gear and Id be in heaven....

Well mabey you have a newer version then....

...because I don't know where you found the the draw audio tool but I'm looking at the tool bar in the manual right now and I see (selector tool, time lock selector tool, move view hand, zoom, audition, split objects, join objects, auto scroll, and amplitute zoom buttons), no draw audio or pencil tool. For overlaping audio I see here in the manual that when a smaller object was selected and dragged on top of a larger object, then it was moved back to it's original place again and the longer object had been shortened at the point that the smaller one was placed on top of it, (funniest missquotes?) then show me where I can find differently. I haven't seen anything about MIDI in the manual either, in your table of contents does it say anything about MIDI, (mine doesn't)? I was also under the impression from my friend's dad that it DIDN'T HAVE MIDI. I had already said that I wasn't sure on only being able to play 16 tracks, but I never found anything in the manual that said otherwise. I found how to change the intruments but not add more, but then again mabey the manual just sucks. Feel free to correct me where I'm wrong, but this is just what I'm reading right out of the manual.

And I don't think that I was misleading ANYONE, my comment was not bashing Paris in any way I simply stated that I didn't care to much for the editor and I don't, I also stated that I didn't know too much about it, and you're right I probably should learn more about it but the editor is a major part in deciding what I choose so how it's set up and how easy it is to use is a major part and Sequoia JUMPED out at me the right off the bat, but Paris didn't. How is that missleading....it's just my OPINION!!

hi tekker,

if you want to use converters, all you need is a soundcard with s/pdif input/output. I would suggest one that goes up to 24 bits/96khz, cos it just souns better and it protects your investment for the future.

THe great sounding external converters under $1000 are only a/d or d/a not ad/da. The swissonic is only a/d as well as the lucid.

But don't worry about the d/a side. If you get a capable soundcard like the delta 1010, as the reviewer said, its d/a is virtually identical to the units costing even $3000.

Another reason to still get an 8i/o card is that the converters sound great, even though they don't sound as good as dedicated units, but you can still use them to input a bunch of great sounding stuff.

Also, the converters are usually only two channels(in the case of the lucid) or 4(in the case of the swissonic.

Gidge. Did you hear what sjoko did on PTFREE. I don't think its the software anymore. I think its the hardware. So when you win the lottery, save the 3000 that you will drop on PARIS, and get yourself a hhb mic pre, a tlm 103, AND a pcm80, all used and then REALLy be in heaven(if you also add the monster cable and auralex foam.

peace

Thanx CyanJaguar,
I just checked the web page and the swissonic is 8 in, so would it be better to get the Delta 66 instead of the 1010, or would it still be worth the extra $$$ getting the 1010? Does the Delta 66 sound as good (or nearly as good) as the 1010 with just not as many inputs?

I was just correcting some misleading things in your post. Also about the manual, it really only has the basics of using PARIS there is a lot in there that is not in the manual for instance the scroll/crossfade/edit button by taking the cursor over the audio track in different spots you get a different tool without having to go to the sushi bar and change. Its really hard to take a complex software and read a manual and learn it, you need to use it hands on. Even after quite a while using PARIS everyday I still find new things I didn't know I could do, but I have not found one thing editwise or any other way that I can't do. Anyway I wrote that last post about 5 min after I dropped one of my new speakers so I was in kind of a bad mood so I am sorry for being so harsh ;-) I wish you lived near Nashville so I could give you a demo ;-)

Hey CJ,

check my post a few up from here....it isnt as much the hardware OR software, its the person operating it too.....

sorry mate,

I totally forgot to put the smiley face on that last post.
:)

hey tekker,
which swissonic is 8 ins. THe $900 one is 4 ins as far as I know.

peace all

Totally cool....but then whats the frickin odds of me winning the lottery.....

Arnold Schwarzenegger was interviewed in his bodybuilding heyday and asked why he didn't walk around in tight fitting muscle T-shirts to SHOW OFF what "he had", his reply was simple. When YOU KNOW you are the best/(have the best) in your respective field there is no need to flaunt it. In life the real tough guys are NOT the ones with the motorboat mouths and the rowboat asses, I think e-one here is getting the 8x10. Point: Cake CANNOT compare to PARIS, sorry it cannot. The FULL version of that propritary Pro tools- perhaps, your mileage may vary.

Point: Tekker's friends father probably does not have the 3.0 PARIS software and obviously PARIS has not been properly explored. PARIS is very powerful, endorsing it or not. MOTU and the other various AD converters and software ALL have a place and a quality/price point application. All fine equipment.

Moral: PARIS seems to be a little misunderstood ( so therefore PARIS must be a female!!). Make NO mistake about it tho, PARIS DOES NOT have a motorboat mouth and a rowboat ass, IT DOES backup what it claims to do.

Yup, Yup, Yup, I love it, it's modular and third party expandable and very, very, very powerful. No I'm not a rep nor do I work for any affiliates - I'm just FINALLY satisfied with my recording capibilities....... not to say I can't fit more gear in me rack tho!

CyanJaguar,
I'm not sure which one is the $900 one (no prices), check out the page and if you find out which is which, let me know.

NashStudio & engineear,
Can you guys tell me where the draw audio tool is? Our band is going to be working on our demo CD on Paris and I'm going to be helping on it and having the draw audio tool would be a BIG help. Also when sliding the audio clip on top of another one is there a way to make it so that it doesn't cut the other one off. I'm particularly curious about this because NashStudio thought this comment was "funny" :D but it does do it. Do you know why it does this and how to fix it? In cakewalk it gives you the option of either overwriting the previous audio track or combining two of them, is there a way to do this in Paris too? Any information you can give on this, and/or any other things you can think of that the manual doesn't really touch on that I should know, would be greatly appreciated. Because I don't have Paris at my house to work on everyday, I sure could use all the info I can get (and the manual apparently sucks!!). I would really like to be able to do quite a bit of the work on our CD so any info you can give would be extremely helpful.

Thanx

Let me know what version your working with and i'll help you....

Oh P.S. Glad to see another PARIS user on the BBS (WOOT!) Let me know if you need any cards or anything man might be able to hook you up...

Thanx Nash, WILL be in touch- this is the BOMB, busy, busy, busy!

Tekker, like Emeril says: " BAM, let's kick it up a notch" - try 3.0, you'll get e-thing you desire. E-mu is so professional the software upgrade is even hand delivered by your favorite rock star!!! I chose Christina. And since I'm a republican ( " I've got mine go get your own" attitude) Christina is mine! Anyway, those democrats leave a bad taste in your mouth.....ask Monica!! Good luck.

Ouch man thats even before my time LOL does he even have a MEC unit or is he using the 442 interface? He should really upgrade he is several generations behind the software he should be able to get an upgrade for free if i'm not mistaken. That should be able to take him to 2.2 which i think was the latest version before 3.0 came out.. I am going to a special clinic on Thursday here in Nashville with Brian Tankersley and some EMU reps to watch them demo 3.0. Should be quite a learning experience with BT there. Check the upgrade thing out cause using that would be like using Cakewalk from a few years ago... ;-)

OK that makes a little more sense now, thanx A TON for clearing that up!!

How much are we talking, not that I actually have the money right now, but if you're going to be around here for a few years.......

I don't want to start talking prices on here that would seem spammish.. If you want to email me and are serious about it I'll do some checking into what you want..

Thanx a lot!!

I probably won't be ready for a few years but, yeah, you definitly got me thinking about Paris now. I wish I could demo Paris and Sequoia and then decide though. It's hard to base a decision without testing, especially something that's going to set me back $3,000+....if you ever come across Sequoia and get a chance to test it let me know what you think of it.

Check out the site, Sequoia (there's only a pre version out right now) looks pretty top notch, but then again it's kinda hard to tell how good it is without actually listening to it. Let me know what you think.
