Hi,

I'm looking to record guitar to my NetBook (ASUS 1005HA) using Audacity and need a USB audio interface - nothing special.

I was looking at a Line 6 POD on Amazon but the reviews weren't that great but the price range (£80) was.

I just want something to sit on my lap on the sofa and make basic recordings (maybe with a bit fruity loops thrown in).

Any other ideas?

Tascam us-800 - big bang-for-the-buck

Also take a look at Reaper. Far more capability than Audacity, which is really only a stereo audio editor with multitracking as an afterthought

Many thanks for reply, I'll take a look at Reaper (looks good) although the US-800 is quite a bit more expensive and looks a bit over-kill for what I'm after.

The US 600 is what I use. It's a fair bit cheaper, and just as good. Only downside is you can only run 4 mics simultaneously instead of 6. Reaper isn't a bad program, but if you get the Tascam US 600, it comes with an LE version of Cubase, which is really all you need.

Alright, you guys are freaking me out man..the US-800 is listed cheaper then the US-600, AND the line pod 6..
what gives?
are you`all thinking of the US-1800 or something?

I noticed that the US 800 is listed as cheaper, right after I bought the 600. The 800 is essentially a stretched 600. I think Amazon is having a sale or something...if not, it means I'm missing something. It's possible the 800 doesn't have as nice of preamps, or maybe it doesn't have phantom power...

The US-800 was discontinued for some reason, so it is now about $100. Some people claim it has issues with Windows 7 64-bit. One of the other members here is buying one to test it out thoroughly, so we should have some good info soon.
