audio interface

Can someone help me, I've been looking for a USb or Firewire interface with 24 I/O's.

Whats your budget? MOTU has a 24 I/O interface. No preamps.
 
thanx. the motu with 24 I/O, would I have yo buy a stand alone preamps or a mixer?

Either would work. Stand alone preamps would be better quality though. Unless you have one helluva mixer haha
 
I want to multitrack 24 channels in a live setup using my a pc based DAW, to set the stereo mix to DVD being recorded live. if possible advice is most appreciated.

What exactly are you recording that requires 24 separate tracks? You will get better advice starting with what you are actually doing as opposed to assuming you have already found the best solution (eg a 24 track interface). Most musicians I know are using max 16, not to say there are not times when you need more! But the more info you give the better advice you will get :)
 
Just plug the direct outs of each individual track of the mixer to the 24 I/O. I've never done anything of the sort, but I'm pretty sure it's as simple as that.
 
guess you are right. want to mix the sound in my church digitally to sent the stereo mix to DVD. ok these are the channels I'm dealing with. 2 radio mics, 6 sure sm58 mics, 2 Keys, 2 guitars, bass, 8 drum mics and 4 audience mics.

I will ask Moresound to chime in on this, he has a lot of experience with live sound.
 
Well I would go for only 1 or 2 audience microphones and only record maybe the kick and over heads on the drums to start that would get you closer to 16 tracks which is more affordable. And the 6 SM58's are they all for backing vocals? You can have 3 and have people double up on them.

I have gotten great results recording live with just 2 room microphones and a stereo feed from the house console then mix to taste in post production.

Guess it all boils down to how much money you can throw around.

Is this a full out praise band?
