I have been looking for new interfaces to replace my aging Gadget Labs 8/24 card.I have a great interest in 8 to 16 ins possibly from MOTU or others and I keep running into the issue of whether my motherboard will be compatible.

I am using a Gigabyte mobo with the via apollo pro chipset / 700 mhz pIII.

there have been numerous remarks about "the earlier" via chipsets but I don't know if mine falls into that catagory. I purchased mine in march of 2000. I have installed all the latest drivers / George Breeze patches, and to my knowlege have not had problems that I would necessarily attribute to the chipset, but then again I am much more musician than computer geek.

I would like to open my search for audio interfaces without a lot of fear that there will be a incompatability problem. I have had some people state that if I am not having any big problems with the Gadget Labs 824 Pci card set up I shouldn't have any problem with anyones pci set up.

Any thoughts? I could sure use some direction.

On their site, Aardvark doesn't recommend the via or AMD 75x chipsets (that's chipsets, not CPUs). Might help you narrow it down.

I believe it's the drivers, not the hardware, that was the issue. If you have updated them you're good. I have a via chipset with an Athlon and my soundcard works fine, though it is not MOTU. If anyone knows different please correct me.

I swear by the nForce 420 chipset from nVidia. I have run both the MOTU PCI 324 and the RME HDSP on it with no problems.

I have had several VIA chipsets and none of them were any good even with all the 4in1 updates and BIOS hacks that are available.
