Hello,
excuse me if this is a really retarded question for you folks but I've been looking into getting one of these new fangled audio interface gadgets for my lap-top ( and for any other computers i get in the future) - I am however not finding what i really want just rummaging through e-bay and doing google searches.
My home set up is pretty basic.
A 16 track mixer, with 8 direct tape out channels- so all my mic's and D.I's go into the desk. I like the desk, the pre-amps are okay, and the phantom power is way better than other portable stuff i have.
I dump four tracks live through the tape outs straight into a Fostex MR8 ( panning tracks to get them onto sperate tracks etc)
then i either mix stuff down on the fostex, (bounce it down i suppose) to a stereo wav. then convert to mp3. Sometimes if i have not gone to mental doing re-takes i export the song files into N-track or Audacity- but i get really pissed off mixing on the PC.
what i really want is a replacement for my 8-track fostex reel to reel tape recorder- which is currently fucked, i.e i want a simple way to use the hard drive on my lap top as a virtual reel, i also want 8 ins and 8 outs so i can mix with the desk and add crap "real" effects.
I'm not rich so i have been looking on ebay for fostex hard drive recorders, but the only ones in my price range are old ( like the D10), and offer a paltry 20 minutes.
so in short, i want 8 in and 8 out with no fucking about with silly plug-ins and shit. something basic and functional.
any ideas?
cheers,
Blasty.
