Audio examples of FX

I can't find the right forum to post this in, but this is the closest I could come to... My question, are there tutorials (whether it be free online, something you have to purchase, etc.) that have audio examples of different effects being applied? Like a dry recording of some guy singing, and then another file with professional reverb added, and another with compression added, etc., so those who aren't familiar greatly with applying compression and effects can understand what we're trying to achieve... aka, the difference between a recording, and the recording with effects applied... It'd be a great help, thanks! :D
 
I think what you need to look for is a multimedia course in mixing. There's a recent thread on the DVD "Mix it like a record", and I'm sure there are others. Applying effects will almost certainly be covered in any such material. I've never heard of anything specific to just effects though.
