Dont know about you guys but I believe cubase effects are far superior to Cakewalks, but cake is much easier to use and doesnt seem to give me the same probs that cubase does , such out of synch ,etc.
Do you think this is fair comment? is it possible to use vst effects while inside Cake?Maybe I/m not fully utilising cake effects. I have downloaded extension paks for the cake effects.

i only use parameteric eq and compression fx

i use dspfx for my reverb, chorus, etc...

i like cakewalk's compressor and the eq is ok too. i don't use the limiter because it doesn't have look ahead peak limiting capability.
 
There are some VST-to-DirectX "wrappers" available that interface DirectX to VST. I read here (I think?) somewhere today that a DXi version is included with the SONAR product (six more days... six more days...)

What does DXi mean exactly and how will that help with using cubase effects?
 
DXi won't help you run Cubase effects. It is a virtual instrument designed around the DirectX model, not the VST model.

AlChuck is correct that there are Wrappers out there that will allow you to run VST efftects inside of a DX capable applications, such as Cakewalk and many others. There are two that I know of, one is made by Spinaudio and the other in by fxpansion. I believe that fxpansion is the one being developed with Sonar. So VST effects will be native to Sonar without needing a third party wrapper.

Thanks, DS_Sultan, for the extra detail. You're right, I should have just said DirectX, not DXi -- the "i" stands for "instruments."

Does Cakewalk 9 comes with compressor/limiter FXs? I don't think mine does.... how can I get them?

Not to speak for crosstudio, but Cake did not come with a compressor, you need to get the FX packages for them. FX1 or FX2 I think. FX 3 is a stage modeler.

And Sonar should have a bunch o fx with it......... waiting... waiting... waiting....
 
Waves plug ins

I highly suggest the Waves plug-ins, like the Gold pack. The Renaissance (spelling?) stuff is real easy to use and sounds great, a few of thier others are complicated beasts, but highly tweakable. The stereo S1 effect is pretty cool too, makes things "stick out" better. I know a few tricks with S1 that are neat, if you ever come across it, let me know. All of the waves plug-ins are, in my opinion, superior to most of the Cake effects... Sonar may be a diff story though... I'll probably still use alot of Waves stuff anyway, even though there is a damn dongle. I got a bunch of stuff free when someone moved from Native to ProTools, so thats WHY I have these plug-ins, every waves pack, and a bunch of other brands too. :) Fat. Too bad I dont know how in the hell to use most of them, and, some of them are starting to get updated, which makes my stuff "old"... but, free is free. The Steinberg FreeFilter is my favorite cheater program... check it out sometimes for mastering. Pretty cool. Wavelab rocks too.

and freeware.

there are a couple of vst wrappers there that you may like and plenty of stuff you can probably use
