Hey everyone I'm new here. I'm not really much of a sound recording guy, I do play a few instruments but I'm using my present microphone for recording lectures in college. I bought a Samson go mic a few days ago and have been messing around with it a bit. I recorded myself playing guitar and a lecture the other day. Everything sounds great when I listen to the audio through the headphone jack on the microphone, but when the audio is saved to my computer and I try to listen to it it's just horrible buzzing with a few words mixed in. For now I'm just using voice recorder from Microsoft to record lectures, I haven't gotten around to getting any recording software since it's just lectures I'm recording. Has anyone had any experience with this? As long as I listen to the recording through the microphone it is fine, but anything else doesn't work. Thanks for the help!

Ok, I will bite. How are you listening through the mic? so you are connecting the mic to the headphone jack?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. It is a USB mic and it has a headphone jack for monitoring the recording while you are using it. When I want to listen to something I have already recorded I have to plug the mic into the USB port and listen to the recording through headphones plugged into the microphone. If I try listening without plugging in the microphone the recording is just loud buzzing

Download Audacity (it's free) and use it as your recorder. Since all you're hearing is buzzing on the recording, I suspect you do not have the USB mic selected as your Audio source device, or if you do, the WIndows volume setting is al the way down (or up).

Thanks I'll try it out. The weird thing is it's a lot of buzzing and then I hear my professor say a word or two and then it goes back to buzzing. Is this because I set the recording input level to high? Is it just set to sensitively? Or does the mic have something in it that allows the audio file to be played?

You said "Everything sounds great when I listen to the audio through the headphone jack on the microphone" - we assume you mean as you are recording - you are hearing the direct input of the mic, not what the computer is recording.

when i say "everything sound great when i listen to the audio through the headphone jack on the microphone" i mean the only way i can listen to the recording is through the microphone. as in i try to listen to the recording through the computer speakers and it is all just buzzing. i have to plug in the microphone, plug my headphones into the microphone, and then play the audio through the microphone into my headphones to be able to listen to the recording. this is several hours after i recorded the audio. it appears to work when i use audacity, so it is possible it is just a problem with microsoft voice recorder. is there any way to get the already recorded file from voice recorder into audacity? audacity says i need to convert it to a different file type but im not sure how to do that.

ill try the video thanks.

yes that is correct, audio recorded with audacity works great, but MS voice recorder doesnt work unless i have the microphone plugged in when i want to listen to the file

So what I have discovered now is the audio will play in audacity but when I try to export it the buzzing sound is back. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
