Getting better
Apologies in advance for yet another post involving these two, but here goes:

I'm saving up for a decent pre (probably the new Studio Projects, when it comes out). Until then, I MUST have something cleaner than the ART Tube MP.

I think Audio Buddy may be just the thing to hold me over. But.... for those of you who have actually used the Audio Buddy with a V-67 --- does the phantom power shortcoming of Buddy affect the performance of the V-67??

Thanks for your replies.

i've got an audio buddy sample at:

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/ozraves

i think i measured the audio buddy between 41 and 42v of phantom power. this chain was a c1, audio buddy, m-audio audiophile.

i've used the audio buddy with several large condensors. they've all worked fine and the results have been very good.

Thanks to both of you. (and especially to Tom for the "Blackbird" sample. He he.)

So I am correct in assuming you have run single large-diaphram condensors through the Buddy without discernable problems. How about stereo micing?

i don't do stereo mic'ing. i have measured the phantom power in channel b with a large condensor plugged into channel a. the phantom power did not drop. i'd heard that it did in the dmp2 so i was curious to check and nothing else.

to my mind, the audio buddy is the mic pre to get unless you got $200 for the dmp3. now, if you got $550 for a grace 101 or $675 for an earthworks lab 101 then get those but they are each one channel.

the fmr rnmp is supposed to be here in three weeks and i may be singing a different tune then. for $80 for two channels, the audio buddy is a damn good deal w/o the phantom power.

there seems to be a buzz recently about phantom power issues and if i was running a pro studio id have class a gear, but if you are doing HOMErecording, the Audio Buddy is quite adequate.....

those audio examplesare proof enough for me.....

Yeah Gidge, I tend to agree. What a bargain! And... I can always add a Meek, DMP3, RNMP or Studio Projects later for another flavor.

i'm actually holding off getting mic pre's until the rnmp is released. have they rls'd a price for it? i expect it to be great... which may be a little premature, but, it's human nature eh

i'm probably going to go ahead and get a grace 101 or an earthworks lab 101 and the frm rnmp as well when it rolls out.

the target street price for the fmr rnmp is $350.

$99?!! That makes me ill! Just one year ago I paid $200 for mine, and that was on the cheap end. Aaaargh!!!! I could have had a stereo pair.

thanks oz, yeah, $350 should be within the budget that you don't wanna go over but end up going over anyway....

so that's that - fmr forever. there should be a rnc and rnmp package or something.
