Audio Buddy question

the audiobuddy pre's probably sound better, but may not. i had one and liked the sound just fine. the audiobuddy will give you mic pre's and di inputs for bass and guitar. the phantom power on the audiobuddy is kind of weak and might cause problems with some condensor mics.

the mixer would give you more options to work with and has a headphone out that you could use for monitoring but no di inputs.

I have an Audiobuddy and a cheap Behringer mixer [UB802]. The preamps in the Audiobuddy are quite a bit better.
