I also went from a Audigy 2 platinum with a decent mic back in the day & whenever I upgraded everything, my whole set up, (one of the upgrades was from audigy 2 to m-audio's 24/96) there was a major improvement. Like said before, there are a lot of shit that they put into your audio that you don't know about really... When I record to my M-Audio card, i get a flat sound that I can mix with & get it sounding better. With the SB, it sounded good right off the bat, but because it's a entertainment card. When I burned a copy of the song, I'll get into the car etc, and it didn't sound as good. In a card, you should get the card that will give you the most accurate sound reproduction you can get w/ the money. SB won't give you that. I also record hip hop/rap
