Audigy2 ZS Platinum... Why NOT?

I also went from a Audigy 2 platinum with a decent mic back in the day & whenever I upgraded everything, my whole set up, (one of the upgrades was from audigy 2 to m-audio's 24/96) there was a major improvement. Like said before, there are a lot of shit that they put into your audio that you don't know about really... When I record to my M-Audio card, i get a flat sound that I can mix with & get it sounding better. With the SB, it sounded good right off the bat, but because it's a entertainment card. When I burned a copy of the song, I'll get into the car etc, and it didn't sound as good. In a card, you should get the card that will give you the most accurate sound reproduction you can get w/ the money. SB won't give you that. I also record hip hop/rap

I THINK I NEED THE WORD 'MULTI-TRACK' RE-DEFINED into terms that are more specific....ie.....as I was multitracking live work with 6 channels using my 3 old SB's (SB1 left,SB1 right,...SB2 left,SB2 right....SB3 left,SB3 right)... no problems going thru a desk then into Cool Edit. (and no timing issues).@16bit, 44.1k.

Wow holy hell that sounds like a pain. Why would you get 3 of those cards instead of 1 decent one?
But anyway, using them like this you bypass one of the annoying things about them: trying to monitor yourself as you play&record along with previously recorded tracks. That is where the latency and timing issues can come into play.

I have an Audigy, I dont record with it anymore. The 'hidden extras' bugged the shit out of me, the latency wasn't so great (wasn't appauling either) and the conversion wasn't too good. You can multitrack tho, just cant record more than the amount of inputs are at once. Which is obvious.

But yeah you can get a much better card for recording for cheaper :)
 
Creative cards were (and are) designed for two things: internet multimedia (youtube, itunes, etc) and gaming.

If you want to record seriously, you should invest in a card designed for recording, not one where recording is secondary or tertiary in purpose.

Don't buy a cheap preamp. Buy the best you can possibly afford - it will make a huge difference in the long run.

okay, but WHAT am i looking for when i research these? what specs are important to pay attention to?
