Ok, I'm trying to help my friend with to get mic meter moving in OBS, but to no success. The strange thing is that it somehow worked to begin with, but after a few minutes, no more. She's got a PC running Win11, a Shure Beta 58A mic, an Audient iD4 interface that is connected to a Behringer Xenyx 1200. Since OBS didn't work, I then tried to get the mic working in Audacity, but nope, it doesn't pick up the mic, whatsoever. I've tried to fiddle around with many settings, but nothing seems to work. We've tried to enable/disable 48v on her iD4, but that didn't work. I hear sound from the mic when she tests it, but my PC doesn't seem to "detect" it, meaning that when I hit record in Audacity, it doesn't record anything, except "PC NOISE"... I've tried to change the hosts and inputs within Audacity, crank up the gain, but nope, nothing... You can see screenshots of all the settings she's got that involves the audio on her PC here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/m4hxH6S

WHAT can I do to get it to work? I am starting to run out of options here now... So, I hope you lot can help me to solve this matter.

Have you got another mic to try with that interface?

First of all, the Beta 58A is a dynamic mic. 48V phantom power is not needed, and does nothing to make the mic work. 48V is needed by condenser mics to operate the active circuitry in the mic.

What driver is being used with the ID4? If the Audient ASIO driver has been installed, then neither Audacity nor OBS will work, as they don't support ASIO.

I don't use OBS, so I can't tell you what settings to make. Have you looked at this page? It specifically addresses the issue.

There are third party ASIO plugins for OBS, at least two of them. They are a bit sketchy sometimes, but I use it on every stream

One could use Reaper or another DAW to determine if the interface and microphone are actually working correctly. That would be my first step.

If the hardware is working properly, the it has to be in the driver / program settings.

It doesn’t make sense that you send the Beta 58A to the Audient ID4 and then the Xenyz 1200 - try sending your Beta 58A to the Audient to the Computer - does it work then?
