I think I have told her the same in exactly the same words in the past :), I assure you there is no anymosity there as a result, everyone here runs into each other at least 1 x a year.
By the way, she runs the company, she neither designs or makes the stuff.
What I like?
Depends entirely on the application.
I like my tube mods - I have 2 U87's which have been "tubed" by InnerTube Audio's Stayne.
Another one I really like is InnerTube's "Magmike", which is really superb.
We also have a bunch of other tube mics here like vintage C12, 47's and the new Lawsons, which I really like and use a lot.
This is in addition to a bunch of other old and new mics, from RCA ribbons to AT tubes

Glad to hear you can be honest straight up to her face, there`s a lot of people on the web who is fund of stirring things up a bit, but don`t have the balls to face the "victim" of their opinions.....
I kind of like trading "opinions" time to time.


I`m just about to purchase an AT 4060 myself, liked it`s smooth clear sound.Also had a Brauner VM-1 for test, but it didn`t like loud singers very much, got a bit nasty in the treble range.....

The 4060 really paired off good with a Telefunken V676....
Not a chance to try the Lawsons here in Norway, wich modle do you have?

the 4060 is very good value for money. The only drawback is that it can get slightly hard at the top end (and there is plenty of it). The T will completely counteract that 'problem'.

The Lawson L47MP is, again in my opinion (but, I should say, unlike the Manley Gold, also the opinion of just about everyone who has used one), the best value microphone on the market today.
It really sounds like a GOOD vintage 47 - that means, better than most working 47's. Apart from that you have the variable multi-pattern, a switch which gives it an additional 3 dB boost at cardioid only, which reduces the, already low, noisefloor even more.
I am finding that I use it more and more, for many things, from vocals to percussion to guitars.
The L251 is replacing our vintage (and very good) C12. Its better, consistant (C12's are temperamental, prone to blow tubes, hiss and rumble) and sounds amazing if you need a huge range with extended smooth high frequencies.

A couple of weeks ago I did put a Brawner 'velvet' next to the Lawson 47 - that was really a no brainer.

In other words, Lawson mics have impressed me a lot - and I am not easy to impress.

those recordings were made with the Lawson 47 and 2 x Neumann KM54 small dia tube mics on the main instruments. There is NO EQ or any other processing involved, what you hear is instrument - mic - room ambiance (large tracking room) through True Audio Precission 8 pre's - Lucid converters - disk

I absolutely love my L47MP, but usually restrain myself from gushing too much because I figure I'll just get labelled a "plant" for Gene Lawson. But if I ever had to pick a desert island mic, that would be it.

I'm considering getting Gene's 251, and I'm glad to hear you like it. Did you have the opportunity to compare it to the ELUX, which I believe is quite a bit more expensive?

The main thing holding me back from getting one at this point (aside from just having spent $6000 on my PTHD2 upgrade) is I may just wait and see what Stephen Paul comes up with for $1500 first. (Hopefully soon!)

By the way, i also own the AT4060, which i got very cheap on E-bay. It's a very decent mic, and I use it a lot when I need a mic for a 2nd vocalist. But I have yet to find a vocalist who actually preferred it to the L47.

What is the "T", I can`t find a 4060T model at AT`s website, seems to be one model only......

The demos sound great, a really nice natural ambience there too..

Of course! How could I miss that one!
The fat transformers smooth out the sound in a great way, It`s actually a pretty bright pre, but never shrill. Warm and bright at the same time....
