After reading this article at Prorec.com, titled, INTEL VS AMD, The collumnist reported this at the very end of the article

"NOTE FOR ATHLON USERS: If you run an Athlon system… avoid installing DirectX 7.0 (stay with 6.1 – already a part of Win98SE).
Installing DirectX 7.0 will reduce system performance by 5% when running the stress-test."

Does anyone else know about this? Is there really a mojor problem using Direct X 7 w/ ATHLON systems? If there is, does anyone know if a new version of Direct X will fix this problem?

Im wondering if 5% is really that significant to the performance of other applications such as 3d gaming.

I can't say I've noticed anything different with dx7, but it's not exactly as if I've been running bench tests or anything!

No probs here with DX7 and SE
I believe its more stable and as for the stress test your not doin it while yer running plugins and recording........

and dont believe everything you read the Athlon runs a 200 mhz fsb bus not 100 mhz fsb
so effectively a 600 Athlon shits all over an 850 PIII...........

Urr it shi*s on a P-III hmmm maybe if it doesnt LOCK UP FIRST.. I purchased the Amd chip both the 600 and the 650 and they both had more compatability problems then i have ever seen. And with the P-III's with the 133 front bus and .18 micron tech. they rule.. I wanted to stick with the smaller company (AMD) and it hurt in the long run.. AMD has had a lot of problems. For example AMD chips wont work with Layla, Darla, Gina, or many other multitrack recorders.

P.S. anyone want to buy a 600 MHZ athlon with motherboard (serious)
