Here's a shot to rip one of our songs apart. Most of this one was written by my lead guitarist (NIVEK). I wrote the chuggy little parts right before the final verse and wrote the lyrics. Basically a slam on the Crusaders. I'm not super fond of this song, so don't be bashful when writing hurtful comments. It's just kind of fun to play though. I'm fairly happy with the overall balance of the mix, other than the Vox (Which are strictly Demo Vox, and were recorded with minimal practice after writing the lyrics, and will be re-recorded with more aggression towards the end of tracking the rest of the album). Other than that, this mix seems to translate fairly well on most systems I've played it on. Let me know what you think.

Very cool intro. Matches the album art. Maiden meets Dream Theater, but takes a side trip to King Diamondville. Very interesting. I'd like to hear it when the vocals are done. Cool song.

Funny you say that, Iron Maiden and King Diamond/Mercyful Fate are amongst my favorite bands (I own every album by all 3, and almost every collectable too).

Actually just prior too recording these vox, I had been on a slight hiatus from the studio, in which time I had been listening to a lot of Celtic Frost (Morbid Tales era), Coroner (Early stuff), and Kreator (The freaky "Endorama" album). To me the vox take on slight versions of that in places, but still come off to clean (especially during the verse parts). I figure if I mix in a 25% Dimmu Borgir sound we should be a bit better off. :D

The album art is actually based around the title track "Dragon's Return"

As a note, "False Crusader" is Pt.1 of a 2 part series (The second is "Descent To Hell", which already clocks in at 9 minutes long and is one of the most dynamic, complex songs on the album...Whereas "False Crusader" is the Groovier, Straight-Ahead feeling song, kinda like Evil-Surfer music).
 
The playing is very cool. The mix sounds almost like mono with simulated stereo FX. There is no separation of the instruments. everything sounds like it is stacked in the middle. I didn't care for the vocals at all. You should have high soaring Iron Maiden style vocals for that tune.

No simulated stereo FX used, but it is very closely panned, I'll try widening it (I actually ran this through the Phase-scope over the weekend and saw just how Mono-compatible this track is). Yeah vocals are scratch only, and as much as I love Maiden, this track is going the other direction, but maybe something like that doubled over the main vox in certain spots for dramatic effect. The chorus vocals will probably be close to they are now, but the verse vox are definitely changing.
 
Just got done checking this tune out...I liked the intro and synth pad things,being a guitar player,I always want to hear guitar more up front and that goes here as well.I dug what the guitar was doing though...vocals were cool to,I like that style...wish I could convey the emotion/feeling in mine that you get here.Not to sure about the drums...Im listening on headphones,and they sound kinda flat and weak with not much low end kick to them..I think I heard some cool double bass kicking in there but no "oomph" to the drums at all.
All in all a cool original tune ...nice job!
 
I think I've liked everything you've ever posted Atterion. This is no exception.

Like the song, but the drums sound.... strange?!?
 
First thing that jumps out is the Snare drum sound. It sounds like you boosted the low mids. Its extremely muffled and doesn't sound anything like a snare. I would screw around with the EQ and try and get some more Crack/snare sound and less of the low "PFFFF" sound.
The Vocals are kind of riding on top of everything. Guitars definitely need to come forward and be more up front in the mix. The keys sound ok but they are dominating the mix.
Thats all i've got. Sorry if these things have already been mentioned, I didn't read everyones comments.
