Attempting to configure a Delta 1010 and Cubase

Right. I just bought a delta 1010 and have been recording using the inbuilt soundcard in the computer up to this point. I'm having a bit of trouble trying to configure my system how I'd like. I want to be able to listen to my itunes music etc without having to wire up my speakers with 2 1/4" jacks from the deltas outputs so I am wanting to use my inbuilt soundcard as the main output device. This seems to be working. I also want to be able to use the delta 1010 in cubase, with all the outputs and inputs. I have set this up in devices and VST connections. When i play something in (audio) the output meter jumps but nothing sounds out of my speakers. Somehow i managed to tell my cubase to use the delta 1010 but ignore the soundmax. How do i get it to regognise the soundmax so i can set it as a stereo pair of outputs?

Realised i didn't make myself that clear.
I am using Cubase SX2. And basically i am wondering how i can get the Sound max to appear in my VST connections as a stereo output? Can't find how to do it by sniffing round Device Setup.

I don't know that you can. When I got a lynx card I had to give up my onboard sound.
 
It's just quite annoying because all the outputs on the delta 1010 are mono so im going to have to get some kind of splitter cable that goes from 1/8" stereo to two 1/4" monos. Not entirely sure where i could get one.
Any Ideas?

Your going about it the wrong way. Cubase should only use the delta (it can only use one sound card). If you want to use the onboard sounds for windows, you still can and just leave it as is but u cannot use both in cubase.

Thats how normal equipment is set up. No one uses stereo 1/8" for anything other than CD to RCA adapters and headphones
 
I can't go to radioshack. I live in the UK. Yeah im aware that people use 1/4" jacks its just irritating having to buy adptors simply to listen to my music in cubase, not being able to route the outputs through the usual way while still using the inputs.

my point is that you need 2 sets of speakers, plugging one soundcards outs to another ones ins is asking for trouble
 
That splitter (stereo RCA->1/8" stereo) is an easy thing to order off the internet. I have a few of them.
 
I can't work out why you'd pay for the convertors in the 1010 then want to listen back through your onboard soundcard and computer speakers :confused:
 
Further questionings...

Right. I went and got a dual 1/4" to male stereo 1/8" and also a 1/8" gender changer. Now its all wired up and im using my delta 1010 to output for all my purposes (cubase and windows). I have sound in windows, Yet I'm still getting no sound in cubase. I have wired it all up in VST connections and all my audio channels are outputting to the first two output channels which are paired as a stereo output. But the output meter isn't jumping even when the input meter does so. Any ideas?

OK now I'm REALLY confused. I just decided to record for the hell of it and see if anything happened. And i got a perfect recording from my keyboard onto the track and it plays back just fine. Yet still the output meter on cubase doesn't move and I can't monitor my signal. AHHHH....

After a little messing around I have discovered some more problems for you lovely people to chin stroke over. Firstly I am getting a noticeable delay on the playback of my midis through my wavetable synth. This wouldn't be much of a problem as when i check where my midi notes are after playing them in to a metronome they are in the right places, but my VST instruments aren't making any noise. GRRR. On the upside my audio latency is a lovely 2.3ms.

Managed to sort out my lack of monitoring signal by turning off "direct monitoring" in the device setup. so i can hear myself. Which is good. However the VSTs are still making no sound, but ARE making the output meter jump. Also even when listening back to audio tracks (which i can hear) the output meter is completely still. I'm wondering whether this is an issue to do with the internal mixer in the 1010.

The 1010 has 4 pairs of outs, are you choosing the correct one?

I've sorted all my problems.
Sorry abouting being so newbish but I'm rubbish. Firstly turns out the the VST was set to output onto my SPDIF channels as these where top of the list in my VST connections and it appears that cubase just takes the top two out puts as ur default outs for everythnig. I have now reordered it and everything appears to output my stereo out. the audio is crisp with no latency problems, midi is lovely and accurate tho the wave table synth still has a big delay. oh well. Turning off direct monitoring sorted out my monitoring issues. I think that was everything.
Dead happy now.
