Beginning to research an upgrade...

Anyone out there have a suggestion for an Athlon MOBO for use with Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96? Is it one you are using now?

On the other hand: Anyone out there have an Athlon MOBO that you know will not work with an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96?

Any and all help greatly appreciated....

I would be interested also Queue, I been thinkin about an upgrade as well. I have a Celeron on my music computer. But an Athlon on my other home computer. It seems like my Athlon kinda out performs the other in some respects.... and its only a 700mz. I'd love to find a good board to use with Sonar and raise the speed level up. I also wonder how much difference the Front side Bus size makes... my Celeron is only 100. But I think the Athlons are 266, or some of the new ones may be 400? do you know if this makes a great deal of difference? thanks and good luck .

Look back a couple fo posts. Some guy with a very good Asus Motherboard had a problem with the Aardvark Q10. Perhaps you should have a quick look at that post. I don't have a Aardvark card but I use an Abit KT7A-RAID. Never had any problems even though it has a VIA chipset.

Alchemist,
Yeah, I saw that post, thanks.

The Aark site says Via chipsets should work, that's not quite enough for me. :(

They recommend the AMD 760 chipset. Not too many boards out there with that one.

I posted the problem with the Q10 and the Asus board (the A7M266). Through many tries of tweaking, I have the system working better, but it still does unpredictible things. So, my non-recommendation for this board is still in place. Keep in mind my problem appears to be from a combination of MoBo, sound card, and BIOS. So, the same chipset and card may behave differently if the BIOS is different.

The tech guy at Aardvark suggested the Gigabyte GA-7Dx, or the Abit KT7 or KT7e. This was based on a very small number of callers (less than 10 I think), who called him and had no major problems with their systems. Of course, the fact they needed to call tech support at all is not encouraging, but my understanding is they had minor setting issues that were easily resolved. The PCI cards for all Aardvark cards are similar, so the 24/96 may be prone to the same problems I am having with the Q10.

hey neirbo,
Thanks for the input.
Don't rule out the vid card in your equation.
Also I've seen weird stuff happen with software changes alone.
