You are going to be the final say in what I upgrade to. I need to know the difference in mobos and what you suggest. I m running Cubase 5.1, Wavelab 3.0, and a US-428 TASCAM DAW via USB cable. What is the difference between the a7a266 Ali Magik 1 and the a7a266 Ali M1647&M1535 D+ ? Is there a difference? Please help. I cannot find the answers ANYWHERE! Also, I am seeing the a7m266 with the AMD 761 c/s and tha a7v266 with the via KT266 c/s. I have narrowed it down to 4 options. Thanks so much!

ROFLMAO.. :D ... 'aight remove all those nasty greek letters, or wutehva it is, from the screen and just go buy a fast intell or amd processor... does it matter what harddisc controller you have?

Go the amd 761 board, avoid VIA.
Some people have success with them, not me really.

a7m266

The Amd 761 seems to be the choice for stability over at www.nuendo.com : check the 'hardware' discussion group, many people there recommend the amd 761.

I'd say avoid Via as well.

What about a dual processor board like the a7m266d? Any suggestions?

Another vote for the A7M266, but I have no knowledge of the A7M266D, whatever that is.

Lots of people swear by the 761 based mobos. I had a VIA board and had so many problems I got a new mobo, but I got one with the nForce 420 chipset (ASUS A7N266).

The biggest problem I personally observed with the VIA baords was that when USB was enabled, the recordings had digital crackles and dropouts. This also happened when applying effects to a track in in offline mode. It would permanently put spikes in the wave file which I would have to go in and edit out.

yes I got the amd and asus a7m266 combo the last month rock solid

Yes, I also vote for A7M266 with the AMD 761 chipset. I use exactly that mobo in my system, with Cubase 5.1 and a US-428. Once I got my WinXP Pro USB audio drivers updated and generally set up the computer and OS correctly for DAW use, it has been rock solid at the lowest latency setting. Haven't even come close to topping out any of my system resources yet either with a 1.4G Athlon processor.

Good luck!
