Athlon and Duron

I don't know what the hell to do...buy a duron or athlon? my wallett wants to buy the Duron but this other side of me really wants the athlon.. How much different are the two?

Sigh... okay, I'm already feeling like a jerk.

If you can afford it, I'd buy one of the .13 micron Athlons. I don't believe they ever scaled the Durons down to .13, but maybe an AMD fan could correct me if I'm wrong.

Otherwise, you're begging for heat trouble. AMD CPUs in general are not the best for recording, though plenty would disagree with me. I also wouldn't get one of the older Pentium 4s. Again, too much heat. The Northwood might work well.

A Duron is basically an Athlon with much lower cache. I have a Duron that I'm relatively happy with, but I'm moving on the a P4 once I get a notebook. (I thought I was moving to Mac, but I guess $1000 in replacement software's a bit steep).
