I heart guitars!
I've had my Rickenbacker 330-12 for six or seven years (1994 model), and no matter how I've tried I just haven't even been able to get close to "that" Roger McGuinn sound. I've tried all manner of amps - new, old, tranny, valve, digital...I've tried my POD...I've tried pedals - all to no avail.

Last week I picked up an immaculate s/h JoeMeek VC6Q. Last night, I plugged the Ricky into the instrument input on the front, dialled the compression up, dialled the low end out and WOO-HOO! There was "that"sound. In buckets.

Me very happy right now.

Now all I need is smaller fingers...

That's intersesting. The closest I've come to that "sound" was using, of all things, a Hughs & Kettner bass preamp (a B.A.T.T.) into a compressor. I wonder if the difference is the opto compressor in the Meek? Hmmmmmm....

Roger used to use a little Pignose practice amp, didn't he? Those little amps are packed full of natural compression...

The Byrds. Think "Hey Mr. Tamborine Man".

I got some great sounds of my little Pignose amp. One similar to the one in Crossroads. Messing around with how far you open it can produce some pretty crazy sounds. I'm gonna have to mic it one of these days and see how it tracks into my DAW. It's so small, you can let it scream without worrying about the mic too much.

I figure it should be a fun venture. If it sucks on tape, oh well. :D
