umm do you have Phantom power? a full 48 volts of it?

You should maybe... read some articles or at least the sticky at the top of this page from Harvey...

phantom power

ok i seem dumb here what is phantom power all i have is my computer at the moment its a new dell xps 420

The microphone needs power to work...

Your computer is not supplying much (if any at all I don't know).

You need a microphone preamp. You hook the microphone into the preamp, then the outputs of the preamp go into your sound card (line-in jack).

My friend's AT2020 works with the M-Audio AudioBuddy even though it is said that it doesn't provide full 48v phantom power. I think those are down to like $60 - $80 now.

The DMP3 is a much better preamp and goes for about $150 new.

There are a lot of them out there.

what kinda

what kinda wires would i have to have to go from the amp to the computer i appreciate your knowledge

what kind of jacks are on the sound card?

For the price of the DMP3 you might find a USB recording interface that works nicely and also provides the same 48 volts of phantom power.

If you are just running a stock sound card there you might want to look into some sort of higher quality unit anyway but for that sort of topic you are gonna want to go over to the computer forum on this site.
