assigning custom samples to midi triggers

Im new to midi, and to logic, and I want to use them both. I was wondering if anyone knows how to trigger custom made samples or sound files with a controller in logic. Or does anyone know of a program that I can use to edit drum samples, sequence them, and import them into logic?

That would be a sampler. EXS24 is the one included with logic and is very capable
