OK, this may be a basic question, but what is the difference between ASIO, WDM, and MME drivers? I just got an Audiophile 2496 and am about to install it. I just want to understand the drivers better. Does the kind of software I am using matter with regard to which drivers I use?

Differences

ASIO is pretty much the Cubase one
WDM is pretty much the Cakewalk one
Altho ASIO has been accepted by the engineering community at large. It was developed for Cubase.
WDM is the Windows version and works with most of the other stuff.
You want to stay away from MME because of its latentcy.

Most of the new Cakewalk software is now leaning towards ASIO - Sonar already is, the new Home Studio 2004.
