Ashdown ABM500 EVO??

anyone played that?? I'm thinking of ordering from thomann.de because local shop is crap.
But wiery, because the alledged quality-issues, I'd hate to ship it back..
Have they got thei act together?..

At 500 watts it should kill, a friend knows a dude that has made cabinets for some bigger names in finland and would do me a cab of 2x15 plus 2x10...
 
I don't think I've ever played that one, but the couple of Ashdowns that I've played have sounded really big and powerful if that's what you're going for. The dude from BLS plays Ashdown if that helps. The only thing I didn't like was that they have both input and output gain like Peavy does, which is why I stay away from Peavy.
 
A buddy in an old band of mine used to play one of these, and it was sweet. He played it through 2 ashdown cabs - 1x15 and a 2x10, so his setup was very similar to what you're looking at. They sounded great; a lot of thump for clubs and whatnot. He did have an ashdown 2x12 combo fail on him one time, but the evo gave no problems.

This was one of the greatest features on this amp, or so we thought while messing around with it and finding his tone. It lets you get as much crunch and punch from the pre as you like without overpowering the sound systems in smaller venues. An invaluable feature, in my opinion.

That's a feature I really like. If you are plugged into the PA via the built in DI, the preamp gain affects both your stage volume and the house, but the post gain (master volume) only affects your stage volume. Set your pre gain so the FOH guy is happy, then run your stage volume from the master.

I don't understand what the prob is; if you turn the master volume all the way up and leave it, it's like it's not even there. The amp operates just as if it didn't have a post gain.
 
I just like to have one knob to crank until I'm happy with it. It took me long enough to get the gain and drive settings on my Ampeg where I like them!

No problem. On an Ashdown, just turn the master all the way up and forget about it. It will be just like it's not there. All the master volume does is turn down the power amp, and on an amp that doesn't have one, the power amp is always maxxed.

This is not quite the same, however, as the Peavey pre-post gain setup that you hate.
 
I've been scourging for reviews and stuff for months to decide my next amp.

Budget being some 1000-1300 euros or so, I REALLY want to get an amp for the next decade. :rolleyes:

Unfortunately I'm unable to try out a variety of amps.
Mostly play heavy rock-->metal, with one jazzbass and one neckthrough with humbuckers, hard to find sounds to both from my Laney.
