Arturia beatstep arpeggiator with synthesizer

Hi everyone. Can you please tell me if a simple midi synthesizer can change notes of the Arturia Beatstep arpeggiator (pad version) with its keys when connected through midi? Or the Beatstep can only use the synthesizer sounds and change the notes with the knobs? Thank you

Edit. I just realized that I got confused with the Beatstep cv sequencer. So I guess only the Pro version and the Keystep have arpeggiator
