What are the differences between them besides the added features of he V3?

MF has the original MP going for 30 bucks.. and gets better reviews than the new one. Is there a difference in sound quality?

I'll be recording acoustic guitar.

If you could have either for the same price, which would you choose?

You will get a lot of negative posts here about the ART tube..many here think them just a gimmick, possibly they are...but the many here who slate them are mostly professionals and therefore have higher expectations of sound quality from products imho..

Not to open a can of worms..but I use the art tube MP project and get very good results with it...mainly for guitar and bass but I have used it on vocals too...Id say stay away from the cheaper MP as some say it creates a lot of noise...user reviews say otherwise but I can definitely say the project does not..I've tried a multigain MIC100 as well and that did create noise...though I still kinda like it on the bass..

BTW I swapped the tubes out of both of them..I hear a difference but again many here have argued that there should be no difference..I can only go by what I hear..

button down the hatches and good luck ;)

Wrong forum...and Let me suggest an audiobuddy instead since it is arround $30 too and has clean gain.

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll look into that :)

I could not find a more appropriate forum though.. Which one should this be in?

The Rack forum...Newbies too since they are pieces aimed at newbies anyway...My opinion is that ART stuff with the fake tube amps in them just add a bit of distortion on the high end...it keeps you from being able to mix more that a couple of channels with one...in reality you cannot really bias a tube with the ammount of power that comes from a wall wart power supply...it has to be bumped up to 300volts...the cheapest real tube mic pres start arround $500...the ART...Presonus Blue tube...Behringers...etc...only use the tubes as a light to tell you its on.

I don't really care about tube. Basically i would like a single input preamp with a vu meter on it. As low noise and clean as possible with more headroom than my Blue Icicle which i seem to clip even while playing only acoustic...

Is there anything that you could suggest, even if it more expensive?

I bought one when they first came out for the $90, as I was curious. I used it for about an hour and returned it after determining it was garbage. Extremely noisy and unless used on a loud sound source, was for the most part useless.

I honestly think you are better buying one of those small mixers that has a couple pres in it, and you have the benefits of a small mixer too. The pres will be just as good, if not noticeably better.

The "tube" thing is pure advertising hype.

and there you have it lol

I hope we are rubbing off on you...lol.

If you want a vu meter you can get the DMP3 used for arround 50 bucks normally...the audiobuddy is cheaper because it uses LEDs...a Vu meter is cool...but when more money is going there than parts in the signal chain...Id assume use the level meters on the DAW.

you don't rub off on me...I'm just kind enough to let you off here

the ART tube MP project warms the signal and improves your gain for an affordable price, changing the tube improves it

Have at it

if you're stupid enough to argue with me again that's you're problem

no chance anythings improved then??

You just cant get passed that nobody that has been doing this for longer than a month likes thier stuff:rolleyes: but it isnt really worth it to get into the goon babble with you...its like you think you win because you are better at throwing arrond insults than others who use thier energy to help people.

you spread false information mate..that's all...nobody who uses these items agrees with you (or others) so that's their/our prerogative...other than that don't buy one..the rest that do and get a significant result should enjoy the fact that they have, it shouldn't worry you

see no name callin' etc..but I'm ready..primed lol

(and your spellings shit)

ART Tube is ok for a home studio, but if you want pro quality go for something higher...

You can do alot better for the same money...avoid the toob stuff alltogether...its too noisy without adding your mic...room...etc.

One rule of thumb is that if you can tell it is on, while a mic isnt hooked up to it just by hearing a difference...its too noisy to use in any situation.

All I want on my tracks is music...not noise.

man you gotta remember that alot of us are dumb teenage nubes and just want something that works. we cant afford the good stuff :(

if it works as a preamp then its doing its job, although i agree that its pretty crappy for it to have alot of noise and try to sell you on the "tube", it is only 30 dollars after all.

not to mention every new piece of gear you get your hands on whether it be good or bad is a learning experience

Thats an expensive learning expereince...lol...heres a word of wisdom...there is allways something inexpensive that is good if you are willing to buy used.

There are quite a few pres arround $35-50...you dont have to just jump on the first thing you see...shop arround...heck the MAudio Audiobuddy is two channels and clean for about the same price.
