I have just purchased and received a ART Studio MP to use in the studio mainly for DI bass guitar. I have a question I have posed to ART customer service days ago but alas...
My situation is this.I am going out the 1/4" out to my delta 1010 and was wanting to go out the balanced xlr out to my mackie mixer for headphone monitoring while also tracking acoustic guitar. The mackie has phantom power engaged due to the condensor mics. Is the phantom power feeding the ART preamp going to damage it?
It is definitely not covered in the ART manual. Has anyone any experiance or insite on the matter? I have another recording session tonight and would like to use it this way.

sorry.

I know this is annoying but I had a really hard time understanding your question until I dissected it. That, plus I don't know the answer but I thought I'd post a simplified version of your question so if someone does know the answer, they won't pass over your question because they didn't understand you. whew!

good luck. my guess is it would do no harm but trust me when I say I DON'T know.

Don't use the XLR between the Mackie and the the ART, use the 1/4 outputs on the ART to connect to the Mackie -- then you're guaranteed NOT to have a problem......

Thanks Blue Bear,
You are correct.
I heard back from ART and here is their offical answer:

Hello Tom,

I am sorry I am a day late. Ideally you would want to turn off phantom power at the board if you can. As you
probably saw, the voltage coming into the unit is going to peg the meter on the Tube MP Studio. The voltage, over
time, may burn out the meter, but the other functions on the Tube MP should be fine.

Please let me know if I can help further.

Sincerely,
Thom Davis

It appears that the pre electronics will be ok if you don't mind sacrificing your meter.
If I still want to run it to 2 different sources I'll make up a balanced cable to my interface and run high impedance to the mixer.

Why can't you run your 1/4" output into the Delta 1010, and then set up the Delta to route that input directly to an output (I do this with my Delta 44, i.e. - In1/2 gets directly routed to Out 3/4, I use Out1/2 for my Stereo mix). Then take that 1/4 output into a line input on your Mackie. This should solve all your poblems!

gordone,
You bring up a very good point.
I am a creature of habit and plugging into the mackie for headphone mix is strictly a matter of speed for getting around my setup fast during a session.(I've done it the same way for 8 years) But you are right. as I get more outboard pres it makes sense to use the on board digital monitor mixing function of the Delta rather than burning inputs of my mixer. I have only had the Delta 1010 about 2 months and haven't fully explored it yet!

thanks
