Nice socks! Can I test them out?

My luck, it'll be the one time he listens to some advice and thrashes his new sound card.

Heh...the sad thing is I can totally imagine him turning a $400 card into a molten blob of solder. It's almost what he deserves, but the worst part about that would be having to put up with his stupid posts as he picks another damn card! BTW, did you see that he moved on to monitors now (check mixing/mastering)?

I think you ought to post a pic of your socks. Please shave your legs before taking one

They're already shaved ;) And... i put fresh saline in my implants just last night....

Compare to the Tubepac instead

A better test would be to compare the Meek with the ART Tubepac, which is closer in price and contains the Levellar compressor as well as the MP pre. I agree that the MP is a very colored and so/so pre, but the Levellar is wonderful. Works great on low end instruments. Big Fat and Squishy sounding. And in tandem the two work well.

That being said, I can't really give an opinion, cause I've never used the Meek.

Im using the art levelar and a fostex de-1 inserted into an effects loop of a berringer 602a for a mic pre.

I wish all mic pre's had an effects loop.Ive been looking at a presonus blue tube lately and I am curious If its a good buy or not.

I would also like to know if a stereo pre could be used in the mastering prosess after the output of a hard disk recorder to add tube warmth to a mix(I dont mic up much other than vocals, My hammond b3 ,and harps).

Re: Joe Meek v3q & Bellari MP 105

I have a question for either Alan or Shakes. On the V3Q, what do you guys use for mild vocal compression settings?
The vocal setting suggested in the manual seems rather harsh sounding to me. The mic pre seems quiet enough,
and the EQ portion is very handy for me to help tame sibilance (the 8K knob) on my Audio-Technica at 3527 omni mike.
I also own the Bellari MP 105 and have been very happy with it , it has both XLR in/outs and line in/outs, and has worked
fine thus far (about 1 year).

For a mild setting, I would set the compression knob at about 3 or 4, which is about 9 O'clock. Use the attack setting in the fast mode, and push up the release to 9 O'clock. If it is still to much reduce your input gain a bit.

You can always by-pass the compressor and just use the preamp if you choose, and a bit of eq for warmth, but it is very capable of a light compression setting. Just continue to back off the compression knob until you get what you want.

Re: V3Q compression settings

Thanks alan, I'll use what you said as a guide and adjust from
there.
