I have the Art Tube MP and was wondering what your thoughts were about it for use as a direct box for bass guitar? Worthless? Useable?

That's about the only thing the Tube MP is actually good for! (it's a really horrible mic pre otherwise...)

considering the fact that I use a Behringer V-amp 2 (the blue guitar model) to record bass, I'm guessing you can use pretty much anything to record bass signal.

It's all I've ever used it for. Not to say there aren't better machines for the job.

I bought mine for mics but as soon as I got my sound card I stopped using it as a mic pre. Now the only use it gets is on bass. Does a nice job as long as you don't use too much gain. It can get noisy.

Yes I have the ART tube MP and been using it for recording base for two years in my studio .works great

Yeah, I used one for that. Blue Bear is right!

IMO, it's horrible insofar that it colours the sound a sort of muddy turd brown, which, although only slightly noticeable on one track, adds up in a MT recording.

OTOH, I've heard a damn well produced CD that was done with a pair of AKG 414s, and a pair of Tube MPs. The guy who did that, though, had really excellent chops.
