I rank myself in the middle category. I've only been playing for about 3 years, and have been mainly doing rhythm stuff. However, I've been getting my chops up with a metronome and without distortion. I don't ever really plan on full out shredding, but the practice will get my timing down, and that's what's giving me the most trouble. I do appreciate listening to people shred, so long as it's in good context with the song.

No...

I'm a wannabe virtuoso...like the "shredders" of the 80's early 90's who can
and do play fast, but also are artists...and shock...actual Musicians.

Note for note...I can keep up with anyone.

I don't have as many exercises down as say...Ferrera...but...that's not what
I'm after as a player.

Not saying there are not any good contemporary players...there are...but
imho..there are some guys who must be...I dunno...tone deaf...have no
musical ability, yet can play those arp exercises like a blender.

Shredding...not my bag...

I am Shredder...
Behold my mightly claws! I am stuck on this planet since Krang found a better place to invade, that wasn't filled with pesky oversized turtles who somehow manage to foil our every move despite the obvious fact all we have to do is push them on their backs and they are f***ed.

Still, it doesn't help that we decided to stick to the stereotype all mega villains stick with, and thats to employ the services of 2 retarded pigs. One day we will learn from our predecessors such as skeletor, and employ an army of moderately intelligent beings, rather than base our judgement on freakish qualities such as mental control over fish, and a guy with 2 faces that just won't stop bickering...cos like yeah thats going aid us efficiently.

I explained these things to Krang and abandoned me here, now I'm all alone. I'm sorry for all my attempts at world domination. I'm sorry for my numerous attempts at killing off engangered species, even if they are the size of men and train in the art of ninjitsu....can I be your friend?

:p

Oh...and yeah I love to shred, I find extremely relaxing and drift away for hours widdleedeeing, it really helps after a stressful day. Even if I ain't the best in the world :D

Does acoustic guitar count? On a recent recording I did some 32nd notes at 114bpm. Mind you most are just short runs. To constantly do that speed, I feel, is boring. I'd rather hear a nice turn of a phrase than hear a bunch of notes just being played fast.

32nd notes at 115 bpm and even faster still...

I play Dragonforce and Power Metal though so :D :D :D

drummerdude: there's only one run, which sounds ok. opposed to that his tone is awful and his timing could be better.

me shredder? my new philosophy is "build the chops and try not to use them". hoho. 16th at 140 bpm on a good day. depends on the lines.
or 16th triplets at about 126 bpm - but it's a cheap shape.

I can play fast if I need to, probably the second option for me.

Me a shredder?

I'll stick to strumming or adding tons of effects so it sounds like I can do lead...lol. Or until they make a guitar with a neck as wide as a 60's P Bass.... BTW, I hate thin necks and picks  ...lol. I had to make my own Jazz bass with a P Bass neck. An Ibanez with that Wizard neck thing ain't too bad. Other than that, I play horrible...err horrible-er.

I can hold my own but I've got to keep after it. I would say that Jason Becker would have kicked my ass. :)

I can "almost shred" Lol, I've never been a big fan of shredders and it's not really something I practice, but I do admit that it isn't easy.

Its all one big note, anyway :D

*goes off to see if she can play 16th notes at 100 bpm...*

I wonder if Shredder could shred? He could be the 5th member of Gwar

Ha dude this was not a thread worth bringing back from the dead

My fingers are so slow,it took me that long to reply. :(

I shred cheese. Does that count? I shred sensitive documents. How about that?

Hah, funny to see this thread come back up. My practice paid off, Im now in 1 category faster than I voted at the time!

Wow, who asked who Gwar was? :p

(in the rep thing)

Anyway, yes Shredder from the Turtles, and Gwar is that metal band with all the costumes and stage antics and such.

I shred only riffs...

BUT, I'd like to know WHAT are the notes in here??:

Guitar at left, around 1:28. Tempo, if I recall, is 140.

A dance song I did as a joke.. :o
