You know, I'm not much of a fund-raiser, and I know a lot of people that frequent this BBS are strapped, but gimme' a freakin' break guys. If just the people that logged on TODAY sent the man $10 each, it'd make a dent. We're talking the rental price of 2 DVD's, or 1/2 what it costs to go to a movie. A SET OF FREAKING GUITAR STRINGS!!!

How much entertainment value do most of us derive from uncle W.? Fuck, you people make me sick!! (okay, the last line was a joke, but if you can't send the man $10,...hell...what am I saying??? NOBODY can honestly say that they can't come up with $10 in the next month. If you say it, I'll call you a liar. :D :D)

[Disclaimer] Preceding rant brought to you by non-music related stress...

well..you're right, and your post succeeding in making me feel like a total schmuck.. I guess ya gotta pay to play...

I'm in. Nowhere radio was a breath of fresh air.
I'm going to opt for one of the extra space deals, maybe it'll help encourage me to finish some stuff off.

Well, I took this opportunity to buy the infinite space deal... it was only 15 bucks (I spend more on lunch :p ) and now I don't have to delete an old song every time I add a new one.

Or you may weigh 400 Lbs.

I mean LOOK at you; your feet are as wide as your head, and your hands look like hams...Even though you appear to be physically active, it doesn't seem to be helping.

(Okay, I've TOTALLY held off on making any comments about your new avatar up until now, but that's just because your last one made me physically ill...LOL).

LOL... yeah.. I really thought I'd get a lot more comments on the avatar than I have... :p

anywhoo... this here is a pic of me... (oh yea... and my Taylor.. :D ) and, as you can see... I'm pretty dern scrawny...

what would really make you ill is knowing how much I can eat and yet still stay that thin... :p

WATYF

Just be careful... You skinny guys think you can eat and eat and eat, and sure you don't get fat, but remember that your arteries clog up just as fast as us fat peoples, if not faster, cause ours have stretched to allow more clogage.......:D:D:D:D

WATYF
Wait, are you the scrawny guitar player, or are you the scrawny drummer?

It's funny how you get these kinda' mental pictures of people on the internet that NEVER match up with what they really look like...that's why I'm asking. I think I pictured you looking more like the drummer, mostly b/c you're a drummer probably...LOL.

Thanks for posting the pic. I'm too scared to post pics of me because...well, nevermind. :D

that would be me holding the acoustic...

just to clarify, though.. that's a real acoustic.... not a synth patch.

:D :D :D :D

I've updated the 'progress' of NWR4 on the forums. I'm not happy.

I know some people will probably get offended here, but mabey Waldo needs to turn Nowhere into a pay site.
Three months free with a six month contract or something.
And everyone who is free now has three months to sign up.

When I first used Nowhere for free and Waldo said he needed people to pay,it was a no brainer.
For what you get it is well worth the $15,just look at the other choices out there.
And considering the price of setting up a studio,$15 isn't even the tax on a good mic cable!

I just think a lot more people would join up,verses donations.
And people who are serious about there music won't have to look elsewhere.

I usually wouldn't put my 2 cents in,but I'd really hate to see Nowhere go down.
It's the best deal going!

muzeman, you are right, some people will be offended.......

btw, I am a paying member of NWR and will be as long as it is available......

(check out my comment on 1-15-2001 - "how long can you keep it up for free....especially when everyone is starting to charge and people are flocking to "that free site".....bandwidth has to give out sooner or later....."

quote from Waldo-"Gidge, the mp3 hosting on NoWhere is free, and always will be. It is also unlimited in both transfer, and size (if you got a gig of music, go ahead and upload!) "

I am a firm supporter of NWR...Ive even suggesting doing the second HR.COM Comp CD through NWR.....but i think it sucks that paying memeber's site performance may be being hindered by all the "freebies" taking up bandwidth....Im sure there are more $$$ issues that need to be addressed, but going more pay based could ease up the problem a tad....many people like to stream and streaming just isnt possible lately and i have a high speed cable modem......

I gave up on ArtistLaunch.com because they closed thier site for a few weeks to upgrade....i wont give up on Waldo that easy because I like the guy:) I will continue to stand buy him and offer any suggestions that may help him.....

I posted the response on the NWR forums, as I know that the kind of post I made would make Dragon mad again...

"Gidgemo's suggestions were one that helped keep NWR going for yet another year in it's close to 5 year survival game...

The biggest concern with going 'all' pay however, is that it will kill almost 'all' traffic on NWR...

The solution(s) that has been devised to prevent 'paying' members from being downed by the 'free' members, is to

1) have a separate line connected to a separate server, where the pay users data is stored. This is one of the reasons I listed a new server and line upgrades.

2) NWR4 will come with a new P2P application which members can install, and get faster downloads with, as the bandwidth would be shared amongst members. This is optional of course, but will take a major load off of the lines.

3) Streams will be limited to 128kbps or 96kbps, as the majority of internet connections out there cannot handle higher, and people trying loads down the lines so that others who can handle it cannot connect. Downloads will of course remain the original uploaded mp3, providing the mp3 is valid of course, for pay accounts. Free accounts will be restricted to 128kbps max.

4) Added support for uploading WMA, RA, and OGG formats which sometimes can have lower file size, will help lower bandwidth.

5) The advanced collaboration application (yes, I'm leaking a secret), similar to RocketNetworks, only easier and cheaper, will help fund improvements on NWR. (StudioNoWhere)

6) The new 'full color' CD package, and a much cheaper b&w 'econo' print CD package will hopefully encourage CD sales. Maybe some, or at least ONE of you guys will buy someone else's CD and support them as well as NWR, lol

7) The new integrated forums will encourage people to post a bit more, hopefully, and thus increase ad revenue to help fund NWR.

8 ) The new upgrades will also affect NoWhereHosting, giving more flexibility on the packages, more features, and hopefully encouraging more people to sign up for the packages. Automated signup and credit card processing will also be included. This will help fund NWR.

9) Hopefully, the added exposure on NWR, and increased traffic, will encourage better paying advertisers...

10) A new 'comparison shop' type application is in development, wherein you can search for a product/component through NWR, and find the best price on a number of online shops. When a purchase is made, a commission is earned.

11) The affiliate program will be complete, and hopefully will encourage more signups, as referrals will earn income for the referrer.

12) Project 'everywhere' is not far off, hopefully income will come from this. Still hush hush, we don't want the majors to catch on to this idea.

13) The radio stations will contain a few audio ads, which will bring in income to support NWR. Of course, the stations will only re-open when certain needs have been met.

Anyways, you get the idea, the plans are in place, but certain things are required before the plans can go into action.

Right now, the next step for most of these things (#3 -#5 possibly, #6 - #9, #11) to be completed, is about $450 USD in cash, and about a months worth of work once the required components and software is purchased. That's about 17 new 1 year iSpace signups.

#1, relies almost entirely on cash, thus the second post. These numbers may change over time as I work other jobs to find money, and put together deals with companies to provide things, or get discounts, etc.

#2, relies on a little bit of money, and alot of free time on my part. I've got the application started, but need more free time to finish it. Free time is hard to find when you are unemployed and hunting for scarce work!

#10 relies on companies with open minds, and time on my part. Providing I can afford to spend the time on it, it'll happen.

#13 relies on the very first post here, about equiptment. I'm sure that at least a couple of the several thousand artists on NWR have some of this stuff laying around, and might want to help out.

Anyways, your thoughts, suggestions, etc. PLEASE POST THEM, don't just lurk in the darkness, I am, afterall, doing this for you!
