Are these good mics?

What is tripping me up is that the MSRP is $399 and I can get two for $50, or a whole kit for $60 with an MSRP of $499.

What is with the MSRP? Are they really that expensive? Does that mean they might be really good mics?

Not sure if I should get them, or if this is a screaming deal based on price, but that seems to be the price from every store, all touting a high MSRP.

What's up?

MSRP stands for Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price and is frequently used as a marketing tool.

Here's how it might work... and often does work.

You have a crappy piece of gear, say a microphone. It costs you $20 in bulk, is most like worth only $30 retail, and you want to sell it for $75. Setting a high MSRP is one means of achieving that goal.

You set your MSRP at $499, and sell it to your retailers for $75. They in turn sell it for $99.95. You pocket a healthy chunk of change, they turn a profit, and you get a overpriced piece of shit thinking you scored a bargain.

These look like re-badged versions of some AT mics that Guitar Center sold in the early 90's. If they are (and I stress IF) then no, they are not good. Look at the frequency response.

No, those mics suck. Audio Technica sells both ends of the spectrum--good mics and bad mics. Those are on the top edge of their bad section.

If you have a traveling Karaoke gig, they would be fine for that.

The ones I've used (D2300S) are a little thin sounding, but I find they're fine on toms at close range. The proximity effect and the weak LF response cancel each other out, so to speak....
