That give a good overview of what I need to get started?

the things i currently have
acoustic guitar
audiophile 2496
cakewalk sonar 3 producers edition
various VST software

the things I have on the way
mxl v67g
2 mxl 603s
a bus mixer probably gonna go with yamaha 10/2

things i think i might need
vtb1
compressor
AT3035 or AT4040
couple of 57's
some kind of talent (any site sell this shit?)

I would like to just record my vocals and my acoustic with a drum track and bass VSTi, maybe a few misc synth sounds here and there. Doesnt need to be super professional I just want to make music to the best of my ability without breaking my pockets.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions? they would be appreciated!

If you're looking for some books you should go for Sonar Power. Gets you the most of Sonar features, from basic to advance explanations.

Well, I can't tell you where I got my talent (it's a secret :D), but you can improve your skills by reading and getting all the info you can! And praticing always help!

lend_me_talent,

As BloodShark said, SONAR Power is a great book, however the current one is only available for the previous version of SONAR, I'd wait until Scott updates/writes his new book.. maybe a couple of months or so.

If you want an elementary intro you can get the Idiot's Guide Homerecording for Musicians.

BTW... as for the things I might need.. see how you go with the compressors in Sonar PE in the UltraFunk Suite.. they will probably be all you need.

As for the mic's, I'm no expert on them. From what I've seen, if you are starting on a budget, get a good condenser and a good dynamic, see how you go with them and go from there.

Also for the rookies (like me), there's this book I found a few days ago in the eDonkey net, "Home Recording Power", in pdf format. It focuses digital recording, but it sems to explain a little bit of everything.

I've got some excellent book recommendations at the bottom of the articles page on my studio site.... (click WWW)

Yo Borrowed Talent:

I have written three textbooks that deal with English Composition and Rhetorical Power.

If you would like one, let me know. I can send you ONE free -- others, well, you know, $$$.
