I'm looking for eight analog ins and eight outs w/ ADAT optical. What are your suggestions? Has anyone used the Frontier Tango24? What... about... the... .............. Behringer ADA?
I have the Tango 24. It works well. I have an Apogee Mini-me as well as a Digi 002R. I haven't really A/B'd the converters on any of them--but they all sound pretty good to me.
Well I already have an Octopre with the digital converter card. I'm looking for a pre-less converter for my outboard pres and for the ADAT outputs from my soundcard.
I haven't A/B'd them on the same source, so I don't know that I'd say that outright. Basically I've doing live recordings of rehersals recently using 8 converters in the 002R, two converters in the Mini-me, and four of the Tango (14 channels total). The Tango 24 is getting bass (DI & mic) along with vocals. Sounds fine. Right now I have the guitar mics routed through the Minime.
Yep, Mini-me to the S/PDIF RCA connection, Tango 24 to the ADAT Toslink. Everything is clocked to the Mini-me. I had some trouble with older optical cables but once that got sorted out it's all worked very well. We're actually getting some pretty decent live recordings. Tons of bleed but I'm learning how to work with it the more I play around.
If you need eight channels it's tough to beat the Kurzweil KSP-8 w/mLan expansion and remote control for about $3,500. Only $438 a channel and the effects are free!
