Thanks Harvey, BTW, what's in your library? Any books or videos explaining stuff related to recording, mixing, mics, tech, etc? That you'd like to reccommend? anyting essential? Did you see that Rupert Neve lecture, that was great.

I've never seen the Rupert Neve lecture but I've hosted a "live chat" with him on ProSoundWeb.com a couple years ago... and have had dinner with him and Evelyn on more than a few occassions... etc., etc., etc.

The Aurora thing is supposed to be pretty cool... though a 1081 it ain't... the Phoenix DRS-2 is IMNTLBFHO even cooler... but a 1081 it ain't. The Great River MP-2NV and EQ-2NV combo while way less expensive and in my way biased mind far superior to a 1081... still ain't a 1081.

If you're looking at a vintage 1081, check the switches to make sure they've been replaced at some point, preferably during the Clinton administration or you'll most likely be buying someone else's headache... or one of the AMS/Neve reissues which are about as close to the real thing as you can get with switches that aren't older than you are.

Best of luck with the search.

Thanks for the info. I'm just researching stuff for my own interest and maybe someday down the road. It's just not practical for me at this time, but sure is interesting to learn what is out there and history and things.

I really liked that on-line lecture, I wonder if there's anything else like that. I get a lot out of someone taking a subject where ever they feel like going, it usually reveals a lot of history, philosophy and practicality. How can you beat that for inspiration and information. And a lot of related subjects that you wouldn't know relate until you covered a lot of material on your own for a long time to put it all together....

In one hour I learned about even and odd harmonics, distortions and their decay in gear, class A vs. b, and C in circuits, digital swithing noise, extended frequency ranges in analog that get cut off from the finite limitations of digital, and more, and his own amazing personal story.

Links, I love links. You never know where people are going all over the internet until they share a link!
