If your trying to do "Lo-Fi" sound, It sounds good. Almost no bass to speak of but I can hear one in the mix. Are you recording these "Live" or tracking them? Not a huge punk rocker here but the band sounds pretty tight. Keep Spazzin, Charva

The parts were tracked. Are you saying that the bass needs more low end?

Thanks, Matty

The bass kick drum sounds like a cardboard box, no definition in the bass and on the whole, the entire song sounds flat like listening through an AM radio.

boy Im gonna get flamed, and this is gonna sound harsh and is only MY humble opinion

the recording isnt too great, but it IS good enough to show the substance of the band which is really the important thing.

however, the substance here is the problem

why should anyone buy your record/see you guys play when it sounds exactly the same as 10,000 other bands? What sets you apart? The only difference I can see between your band and all the other NOFX clones, is that NOFX is better at playing NOFX songs than you are.

punk rock used to be about expressing individuality..today it seems to be about expressing individuality by doing EXACTLY the same thing as everyone else. Expressing individuality thru mindless conformity.

There was a time when DRI's Dealing With it, Corrosion of Conformity's Animosity and Dead Milkmen's Eat your Paisley were among the top selling punk albums ( LOL like as in selling an album a week ). These three bands might have ONE unifying theme: they wanted to get their views across. BUT they sound NOTHING like each other.

Listening to NOFX you can hear some of their influences of the sissypunk world, like descendants, Bad Religion, christ on parade and such but they certainly had their own unique sound.

What is it that sets you apart from all the other nofx clones? If you can answer with something good, youre probably on the right track, but I aint holding my breath

there was almost no bass drum at all when it kicked in.. lower the cymbals and raise the bass drum and snare.. also bring up the bass.. I think these things would make a huge difference right off the bat man.. keep at it!

B. Sabbath has nailed it!

It sounds like the drummer is down the hallway

Get him back near everyone else!!

Some tweaking and you can make something of this!
Stick with it ;)

Thanks for the help people. The drums are tracked bad, but I will keep working on them.

Pipeline:
I understand you, and I don't agree with you, but whatever. Thanks for your time and comments nonetheless.

"I understand you, and I don't agree with you, but whatever. Thanks for your time and comments nonetheless."

I dont care if you agree with me, but CAN you give me one reason why I should by this instead of one of the others?
what is different?
what is unique?
what WOULDNT someone expect?

ask yourself those questions HONESTLY. When you come up with answers, see if you cant pull your music in a direction that answers those questions...

THEN I'll be glad to help if theres anything I can do

Why should I give you any answers. Thanks for your time, but I don't owe you anything. I am very happy with the songs I write, and the arrangements I write for them. Your opinion in those areas doesn't really matter. Please don't buy it if you have the opportunity.

Timmy:"Mommy, I WANNA be a punk rocker when I grow up."

Mommy:" Why's that little timmy?"

Timmy:"I don't LIKE thinking mommy."

Mommy:"you can be anything you want when you grow all up little Timmy."

Answer pipline's Questions, what are you afraid of?

There is an issue here imho... but is it separate from music? Something similar happened about two months ago in here with an up-and-coming engineer, that produces highly polished stuff (no names)... the irony is the song he produced was about how the band "Creed" was not an original band (or... how they SUCKED :D) and THIS coming from a band that sounds quite a bit like the current Sum41, Blink182, Lit craze... :D

Now I respect the guy's abilities as an engineer, and imagine he does it for a love of the music; but if the music is about being original, and they're taking it serious, then the band is hypocritical because of their own sound.

---

Difference here is that ... did matty_boy say he was trying to sound like NOFX? Is it entirely possible that some band from North Korea, never having been exposed to rock-n-roll, might sound like the Rolling Stones? Possible, maybe...

Posts like this come down to pure opinion, anyway... reserving judgement like that is hard, especially when you've had that rant building up for a long time... I respect both of you :)

Thanks Chad. Appreciate it.

Jake: I'm not afraid of anything. I like to write songs and record them. I spend a great deal of time thinking about how I can make them the best I can, I just don't feel I need to share that with you or anyone else on the internet. I know what my goals are, and they do not include selling a lot of records. I have only myself to please, and I like what I create. I am looking for help and opinions, and I thank people for them, but I don't want to be challenged by you or Pipeline concerning how original I am. I write what I write.

Matty

I wouldn't say anything if I didn't think you could be a whole lot better. And in the future I won't.

Good luck anyhow (with stuff)

hey matty boy, fuck jake-owa and pipelineaudio..

sounds like 2 dicks to me.. :)

Keep at it Matty, you defenitly have the right attitude.........While at home I cant listen on a critical set, if you need some help send me a cd if you wish and I'll take it to the studio to give it a serious valuation.

well heres what I think.....

I liked the songs. You already know the suggestions for the drums, other then that one song had low vocals. I dont listen to punk enough to say this guy sounds like this or that, only to say that I thought the songs were great for what they are. You keep doing what your doing Matty_boy, and remember, no statue was ever erected for a critic...

Pipeline dude, chill out, you sound like this bands record label CEO for christ sakes haha!

Thank you very much everybody. It means a lot to have you all encourage me so much. As always, I value all of your opinions.

Matty

How do you track your drums (mics, placement, number of tracks?). They're too weak for this kind of tune. The guitars ain't half bad. Even with minmal mic-ing I think you can put some more ass in it.
