Hi
I´m thinking of buying an Apple iMac 24" with 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB Ram instead of my PC a Dell Dimension 5150.
Does anyone of you have experince with this iMac for making music and has it power enough for rewireing and virtuel instruments plugins without going down.
I normally use 20 audio tracks and about 6 Aux tracks. The heaviest plugin I use is virtuel guitar amp Eleven from Digidesign on about 4 track. And then some 7-band EQ.

Best regards
HaK

That iMac will have plenty of grunt for you needs! I'm sure you'll find it a LOT more powerful that your Dell. I would recommend that as a system without much hesitation...

I just built a system for a guy based on that platform (iMac 24" 2.66Ghz) and it works perfect. One bit of advice, choose your interface wisely (unless you already have one). Because this rig is overseas (Malaysia) and hard for me to trouble shoot (from Canada), we picked up a USB (Fast Track Ultra and therefore Pro Tool M-Powered) on the way instead of a firewire interface. Reasoning that the new iMacs only have one FW800 port and chaining the interface thru the drive (or visa versa) has created grief for some. I think we bypassed a bit of pain by opting for the Fast Track Ultra. The rig performed very well as we did a lot of tracking on it over a week and a half (using a Lacie D2 Quadra external drive) with no gliches.

Your mileage may vary, of course.... my 2 cents...

Hi
I have a Digirack+ connected with firewire. will that give me any problem?

That's someting I forgot to mention. I assume that you're buying the new generation iMac that only has FW 800 ports? If you go on Digi's website, there's clear instructions as to how the external recording drive and any of their FW interfaces must be connected!
