hello,

sorry for asking again... but

i just dont know what to my to my manley gold mic.

api 7600 or amek CIB or great river MP-2NV or manley TNT or manley mono pre or focusrite isa 430 or millennia stt 1
i just have $3000 to spend

i have a avalon 737, grace 101, summit 2ba-221, focusrite voicemaster pro, tl-audio 5051 and a soundcraft M8.

it to record male vocals ( tenor ), i wanna a clean, transparent, smooth sound. ( i prefer a transistor system)

I don't think I have ever heard mixed opinions on the Great River, if you want your voice to sound great anyways. But clean, transparent, smooth, almost puts me in mind of like a Jensen Twin Servo or Grace 201 (supposed to be improved over the 101). I have a couple channels of sort of a twin servo clone, and it is mega sweet sounding on sweet singers. Real clean, pretty transparent, but some transformer warminess going on too. The Jensen one is probably even more transparent.
API is really cool, but not exactly what I call smooth. And who the heck has even used that Manley TNT thingy yet?

Of the preamps you have right now, which one do you like best with your Manley mic? That might give us all a hint as to which direction to recommend.

The problem is there are at least twenty preamps out there that a fair number of people would likely say sounds fantastic with your Manley. The ones you've listed just scratch the surface of possible options. Among others I would consider is the Tube Tech MP1a - while it is a tube preamp, it is on the transparent side while still having that smooth vibe.

I don`t have anything of this level and can`t recommend anything but Manley TNT interests me a lot.

Gabriel, for what you're describing API, Manley, and Great River are at the other end of the spectrum, and are all colored.

If you want "clean, transparent, smooth sound"...

look into the LaChapell 992

Also, Millennia M-2B

Also, the Forssell FetCode

If you want a channel strip there's the Pendulum Quartet
http://www.pendulumaudio.com/Quartet.html

or the Millennia Origin STT-1

My 2¢

i recommend the VTB-1 or the DMP3

heh.

but i have seen the neve in action, on a male singer with both a higher alto voice, and a lower voice, and i liked it both ways.
