Does anyone have any experience with this? A person at my local store said that this mic is equivalent to the Telefunken M16 tube mic that costs $1400. their internal circuitry are apparently the exact same. i was wondering if i should ditch my AT3035 and grab the 460 instead. Good idea or bad idea?

Stick with your AT mic.....

Just because the schematic may be identical, in no way indicates that the mics are the same..... you are much better off with your AT.

But if you really want to ditch it, I'll give you my mailing address.....

Hehe...i'm confused man! Should i 'ditch' my 3035 and grab the NT1000?

Read the thread 'Apex Capacitor change". I have both mics. AT3035 and Apex 460. Tube mics are noisey. If you use it in a studio on a quiet source you will hear the noise floor of the mic. Keep the 3035, it's pretty decent.

I have a modified 460 and I have to say, it is an awesome mic for the price.

Replaced the 12AX7 supplied with the microphone with a selected 6072a tube; replaced the electrolytic coupling capacitor with a more accurate and slightly larger mylar caps; Installed a Peluso Capsule with the same one used in the C12/ELAM 251 and replaced the output transformer with one that matches the AKG C12/ELAM 251 as well.

Basically rebuilt the mic. All that and new paint too, for less than $700

IMO – this modified 460 outperforms mics that cost considerably more money. However, variety (as in having multiple mics) is always better than having just 1 mic. Keep the 3035 and add to the collection.

Telefunken no longer sells the M16. Instead they have the M16 MKII and the AK47. Both use completely different circuits and custom transformers. The MKII uses an EF732 (same as 5840) sub mini tube and the AK47 uses a 12AY7. Apparently these are big improvements and they offer an upgrade path from the original M16.

The Apex 460 (Nady TCM1150, Carvin CM100) is not a bad mic out of the box. It has some serious limitations and a few of us here have modded the HELL out of this mic.

Check the other links.

Thanks for all your suggestions, guys. Appreciate it.
I guess I'll be keeping my 3035. :)

you can hear apex 460 compared to Neumann u87 in my post titled Apex 460 vs Neumann U87 :)
