I am considering the Hoontech 24/96 8 ins 8 outs card for $415.
Anyone have this card and breakout box combo?Any info appreciated.

yeah,
It was the first soundcard I was gonna get, but it didn't fall through...not proffesional, the best price and best card for it's price, I think so... The DSP value I'm talking about, but All of hoontechs stuff is good, no one ever complains... That 8in 8out is a super deal, you get everything, good drivers, good converters, good I/O's, good mic preamps I suppose, I don't even remember it that well, but you can't go wrong with it... also depends what your trying to do, this will do everything I think, but, give you the top notch performance you can't expect from this price range anyway... That's why I steared away.

I am a home hobbiest looking to upgrade.Currently,I've got 2 consumer 16 bit cards synced as a virtual four track.I want to go 24/96 and several recommendations about this card sounded like it might be a good combination of quality,features and especially price.

I have the DSP24 with ADC/DAC2000 break out box and I think it's very good if you consider the price. It sure isn't the best soundcard on the market but I don't think it can be beat at that price. The built-in preamps are crap though (at least mine are) so you need external preamps that you connect to the line in. A simple 8-channel mixer with good preamps and the Hoontech combo will give you a good home recording setup without costing too much.
I'm looking at getting either a really good stereo preamp or something like the mindprint AD/DI, which connects to the S/PDIF in, so I get a really good stereo setup.
If the DSP24mkII had been available when I bought my setup, I would probably have gotten that and an ADCIII instead. The preamps on that one are apparently pretty good so you don't need a mixer.

what is your purpose for upgrading, better sound, more I/O's, everything?...because the hoontech is really just giving you everything. You might just wanna get something of high quality to improve the area(s) you feel is(are) lacking.

Or, you might want to get a "mid-quality all-included with a cherry on top" deal to grow in and then get top-notch gear for the few things you really need. Rather than getting the best of what may not be right for you...

what about the DSP 24 value with the optional Bracket (s/pdif and midi) is it any good?
does it work with AMD ?
I'm comparing it to echo audio MIA... Mia has TSR balanced ins and outs wich is nice.... but it costs a bit more Mia also has her troubles... So how stable is the hoontech?
