Hi guys,

I got a patch from the Triton LE that I really like called "Square Mini Lead" I downloaded this to my KARMA. I want to use this sound in an old "Cars" cover tune "Just What I Needed". It sounds pretty close except I need to add some portamento to it. I looked allo over the edit menu and could'nt find it. Can s0omeone help me out?

Thanks in advance,
Ben :)

Ben-

I've got a KARMA and I didn't know the answer to this question.

After looking at the manuals, it looks to me as if you can only enable portamento on programs using the MOSS board (if you have one installed). If so, then it's available on the 3.1:Ed-Pitch page and it can be enabled/disabled for each oscillator.

If someone knows different, enlighten us please.

slightly off topic

You can only edit patches in program mode not sequence mode....is that correct?

I've never edited patches thats why I ask....I should start had the darn thing for like 2 + years :o

Yes. Sequencer mode is for, well, sequencing. Program mode is for programs. Combi mode is for, you guessed it! Combis! (See a pattern here?) :p

Honestly, I haven't done a lot of programming myself. I do occasionally muck about with the KARMA MW software and, though I really haven't got a clue what I'm doing, you can get some amazing things happening. The KARMA is one of the deeper synths I've ever seen and, unfortunately, while thorough, the documentation does not really help you understand how to work with it.

Still, I think, considering the tiny screen, the OS is logical. It's just difficult deciphering the tiny writing sometimes.

It's still my pick for the "If you could have only one keyboard on a desert island?..." question.

MW s/w what does it do again?

I remember thinking it was cool but didn't have the dollars for it yet.

Also if I edit a sound in program will the parameter be saved so i can use it in seq mode or that isn't possible at all?

The KARMA MW software gives you access to all the parameters of the KARMA GE's (Generated Effects) and allows you to program your own. As it stands on the KARMA itself, you can only modify a limited number of parameters on a GE and you have no say in which ones they are. In addition, the MW software acts like another set of KARMA generators, in effect giving you 8 to work with. Another mind blowing feature of the software is that through the use of the KARMA VMD (Virtual MIDI Driver) you can output the MIDI generated by the KARMA function to any MIDI device connected to your system.

It requires version 2.0 of the OS to work. All the new KARMAs include it out of the box, but you can also purchase it. Stephen Kay's web SITE has all the details.

If you edit a program and save it to the same location, then any sequence or Combi that uses it will also be changed.

Sequences are just playing back the sounds contained in the Programs and Combis.

I find it hard to believe you cannot adjust something so simple like "Portamento" on such a Krazy synth like the Karma!!!

I know, it doesn't make sense. I think I'm probably misunderstanding the manual.

Regardless, you will find the switch to enable portamento where I described, that much I'm sure of. ;)

You can do it with the MOSS board installed. Yes, believe it or not many synths, have abandoned portamento. Why??? I don't know!!! Seems kind of lame to omit such a important feature of every classic synth ever. My N264 and N364 also lack portamento.

The only thing I can recommend is lengthening your attack and release times, but you'll lose definition when your playing single notes. Just try finding a good balance, or better yet, you now have an excuse to go buy another synth. Always look on the bright side of things :)

Thanks for all the responses guys,

It took some trial and error but I found it and I'll share it with you.

1. Find the synth program you want
2. Press the Menue button underneath the wheel
3. Cursor to and highlight "PITCH" and open it
4. On the bottom of the menue is a box where you can chek it to enable it
5. To the far right of that is where you can set the potamento time

Cheers :)

P.S.
Don't need the MOSS Board for this :) YAYY !!!

Yes, You do NEED the MOSS board. You might not need it for portamento, but you NEED to have the MOSS board just because it kicks major ARSE!!! Ever since I first heard it on the Z1, I've loved it. (Note: the Z1 actually included additional algorithms that the MOSS board doesn't have, but that's because the Z1 was designed around that technology, whereas the KARMA only uses it as an addon). Glad you figured it out though.
