Hello,
I'm thinking about getting the tascam tm-d1000,the pci822 and a new pc as an upgrade path from my tascam 4 track recorder.Need more tracks and the ability to try alternate takes and mixes. So far of the few software demo's i've tried,i'm leaning towards Cool Edit Pro.In the long run,I will probably use more than one program.I like the simplicity of cool edit for editing, but for recording and mixing I still am not satisfied with anything i've played with.I was going to have a pc custom made for audio, but here lately i'm leaning towards a Dell because of price mainly.I've done lots of research so I am aware of the complexities of mixing with a digital mixer.I am mainly wondering if anyone has a setup close to what I'm thinking about getting, and how well it is working for them.I've been thinking about going digital for a long time, and all the choices available are driving me nutz cause none of them have everything I want and are still simple to use.The tascam sounds like it might be a decent solution, and is fairly cheap.
Another option I'm thinking of is a Delta 1010 card and Alesis's studio24 or a mackie mixer(this is pricier than the tascam idea though).

anyhow,I look forward to your input
thanks,
JT

Im using a tmd1000 and cool edit pro. I love every bit (harhar) of it... though Ive been tossing around the thought of learning Vegas...

I actually Use CEP and SoundForge by Sonic foundry. They have their individual strenths. And I have a Mixtreme Card and NOT the PCI 822... I would suggest that, though I haven't used the Tascam card, just because it has a lot more potential..(16in and outs rather that 8... onboard DSP... Onboard mixer..) I have a midiman Midi interface.

Overall, the whole setup is ROCK-FUCKING SOLID all the time. dont be fooled by the hype.

ALSO, I think my Tascam/mixtreme setup sounds WAY better than the Mackie/midieman setup I had Before.. and its way easier to use. AND I know a bunch more of little details and shite, just incase you wanna know. ALSO Tascam has a great discussion board for digital mixers. a lot of guys there are using setups like these.

Thanks for the reply,
I am checking into the Mixtreme now.It does sound like something i'd benefit more from than the pci822.Their website says it has drivers for win95 and NT.Chances are if I get a new pc I'll end up with 98SE or winME.Have you heard if it will work with either of these?
Looks like I could run into trouble since I am wanting a killer gaming/multimedia computer and a hd recorder in one.The Mixtreme mentions having some conflict with certain types of vga cards.I had not considered that possibility.

I use it for 98, and I have the drivers for 2000.

ANY soundcard will have problems with lame video cards. Some video cards get greedy and hog resources... essentially saying that video is more imprtant that onther things(like sound) so video events should take precedence. YOU MUST AVOID THESE CARDS.
ask around... do a search, Ive heard that ATI cards are pretty freindly. I use 2 crappy video cards, with no problems.
