In my case, the masterlink is an alternative to using a computer. I guess you could call me old school but I like outboard gear. I know that there is a lot of versatility and power to using computers for audio but I will leave that stuff to the mastering pros. I just need a nice burner to mix to and having the ability to throw a little of the units mastering features on a disc every now and then for reference is cool too. I would never rely on the ML to master a project myself. It's just handy to "beef up" a disc that you might give to someone to have a listen to a track.
