i presently use 4050s for drum overheads and they work well in my recording room.

i'm looking to get some new mics and right now i'm considering either a pair of RØDE NT1000s or NTKs. i want to stay less than $1000 for the pair. also, i'm not looking to get a matched pair. the NTK is $200 more than the NT1000, and they seem to stack up very similarly. i'm willing to pay the extra $400 for the NTKs if the difference is there.

anyone have experience with either of these two mics. i've read several reviews and now i'd like to hear actual experiences. hopefully someone has experience with both.

thanks...

I have used my Ntk as a single infront of the kit mic a couple times and it does sound nice
but I dont know if you will get enough differance out of them to justify buying two Ntks or
nt1000,s to justify doing it over two 4050,s . But I know the feeling of wanting something
new to try. If you do go with the Ntk you might want to try this link and check on the price
of the Ntk or 1000,s I think you can get a Ntk from them for about 369.00.

what other gear are you using (mics,preamps,etc)...im just curious because that is alot to pay for overheads, though they both are killer mics...im just wondering, depending on your gear list, if the money could be spent better on other links in your signal chain....

Yeah, I was thinking Great River MP2NV, myself, to go along with those 4050's, which are pretty decent mics... I'd spend the money on one mic and get a TLM-103, though. But thats me. Or a 170 if you want a flatter mic than the TLM-103.

herm, i saw the price of $369 at bpmmusic and this just seems to low. all other WEB retailers are at $499. i've ask bpmmusic what's up.

gidge, i'm using Mackie 1604-VLZ's right now. but i've ordered the transformers for the Neve 1272 preamps and i'm going to attempt to build two channels. if this works then i'm going to build 6 more. if this does not work out, then i'll visit my preamp section later in the year. i'm also going to upgrade my A/Ds with either LUCID, RME or Swiss Sonic converters. this will complete my signal chain.

tubedude, i've looked at the TLM-103 and it's still a consideration. actually my post is me "thinking out loud." these won't only be used for overheads, but what i get i want to make sure that they fit this bill. i've had a lot of success with my 4050's and 4033's and i really like them. i'm just trying to add to my tool set in pairs instead of with just one mic right now. i may rethink this, though.

thanks for input...

dude, you got your ducks in a row!!!!!

btw, you have won the Gear Slut of the Week award!!!!!!
