Anyone used a C-port

A few days I posted that I wanted a Delta 1010 and well I think I may have found a low priced competitor. It's the C-port DSP2000 for $399. It comes with an external rack mount unit with 2 XLR pre's and 8 1/4'' inputs. Thats 10 total inputs plus an spdif. Since I have a mic pre with spdif out, that would be 12 total inputs. Best of all for $289, I can get another 8 XLR inputs with phantom power and preamps. This sounds like a good deal.

I remember reading here about how the C-port was very close in quality to the Delta 1010. I was wondering if any members used this product and if they had some wisdom they could share with me. It seems like there are drivers for all major operating systems and they have a decent website.

I have a c-port as you describe 8X8 breakout box plus stereo S/PDIF on the included daughtercard.The drivers are the same as the terrtec stuff.However,the two included pres sound pretty grainy if you crank them.I use an 8 channel mixer if I need XLR or just go 1/4" into the breakout box.
There are lots of multitrack soundcards out there now.The c-port is a pretty good value choice.I have a rock band and here is a c-port clip.

I need some info on that C-Port card! I want to buy one, but can't decide wether to buy the terratec EWS88 MT or that C-Port DSP2000 (it's that one from foontech, right?). I use a ASUS A7V motherboard with a KT133 chipset. This mobo is known to have conflicts with soundcards in general. My current terratec Base2PCI works fine on it though.

Anyway, I always thought terratec was the best choice, what do you think? Which one should I get?
 
i've compared the 2, the cport doesn't quite compare to the Delta 1010.... the 1010 just sounds so much better, and the pre's on the c-port are garbage... for $399 the cport is one of the best cards... but if you know the right ppl you can get a delta 1010 cheap..i got mine for $350 brand new... but that was a 1 time deal...between the terrtec and the cport.. i'd pick the cport...
 
I have one too - it's a great card - I'm very happy with it, but I had to jump through some hoops to get it to work with Win2k. My latency still isn't what it should be, but I'm sure that has to do with my system (and I don't do too much with sofware synths anyway).

If you're on Win2k or XP you'll probably have to disable ACPI (power management and IRQ sharing) to get it to work, but it's not difficult to do, and it's recommended with most high-end cards anyway (I'm told).

And yes, the pre's are completely worthless - I use the channel inserts from my mixer for pre's into the breakout box too. The Delta 1010 doesn't have pre's anyway, so it's still pretty-much still apples to apples. I've been told that the Delta's D/A converters are better (like c9-2001 said), but I've never had a chance to compare them side by side.
 
So as long as I use the 8 1/4'' jacks, I won't have to worry about the sorry pre's because the 1/4'' jacks have no pres right? By garbage do you mean the pre's are noisy?? I have an M-Audio mic pre I like anyway.

I find the pre,s to be noisy, have low gain and just sound lifeless for some reason, apart from that they are Fine!

There are still driver issues under Win XP/2000 but mine works fine on 98SE.

The Dacs are not quite as good as the ones fitted to the Delta 1010 but I found the sound quality very similar with the same SNR at 16 bit and only slightly inferior at 24bit.

I sold my Delta but kept the Cport?
 
Yeah, the pres are noisy.I just don't use them.Sorry I'm not computer literate enough to compare chipsets and mobos.If you need 8 ins for drums or whatever,this card is a good choice.
 
I own C-port,
no problems for me
and just add for what was said already the pre (alternative to mono jack 1 and 2) are weak, for me not noisy, just pretty weak.

I had no problems to run it on my computer with official drivers.

Still we are waiting for solid and fast WDM drivers which is the biggest issue on staudio.com forum (staudio being new producer/owner of C-port).

On their web page you can find lots of info and problem resolutions

It is not recommended to use C-port on MOBO s using KT133 and KT133A chipsets it can cause lot of troubles and tweak to work fine
My personal experience with ABIT KT133E (same as KT 133) is no problems with clicks no hardware conflicts everything fine.
Just check the staudio formu (Q&A).

the cport has the same converters as the delta 66...
it sounds good, but when mixing on high end monitors you can hear a difference... even the clarity of the music overall... i liked the cport, but i stayed with the 1010... i'm about to get another 1010
