I have used/owned it. Nice machine to have. I currently use software now and I was actually a major hardware head but now that i have explored the world of software i dont even see myself goin back. Not right now anyways. But its def a nice piece. The only complaint I have is the preamps. They suck like hell. Dats jus my opinion though.

I know what you mean I started off using a pc then bought this work station
IMO the work station is far more difficult compaired to using PC software,
I am currently in the process of selling the VS 2000 and I am going to buy a digital mixing console and a bare bones computer and load it up with the best audio sound cards I can put the thing.
I just downloaded the new version of reaper and I am liking it a lot,it is very simple and strait forward.
however I still love KAE and wavosaur. you can do a fsntastic job with those 2 programs.

Oh ok. Yeah i sold mines about a year ago. I actually use Reaper myself. I just started recording sessions with it and I love it man. I use a Tascam US-122 soundcard with it and a nice mixer and all is well man. Im about to add the Behringer BFC2000 to give me some hands on control. Well i hope all works out for you cause I know it is for me. Good luck though.

I still use one. I use it in 24 bit mode. It's nicely portable for on location recordings. Overall it does a pretty good job.
I will be upgrading to a laptop based system. The station is just limiting.

when I bought the workstation I was under the impression I was getting the the vs20 card for monitor and mouse but it never showed up. that card is a 299 dollar option that should have been standard part of the equipment IMO, I know I am not the only person who feels this way, i think it is Rolands underhanded way of putting you over the barrell to get you to spend more money.
The work station is a good little unit and excellent portable unit.
from what I have heard the only reason they dropped the unit is because roland pretty much shot themselves in the foot because the unit was taking sales from thr boss line and the roland VS 2400 sales was suffering also.
I think if sales was that dang good i would have ran with it instead of dis continueing the model

I am wondering if anyone out there can help me out here... I am VERY new to the whole home recording stuff, and I have a Roland VS 2000. I can get the first track recorded, and the playback is fine...but additional tracks can't be heard when played back, and I'm really getting frustrated! 
It shows on the monitor that they have been recorded, but they can't be heard...and only faintly if I silence the other tracks. I am sure to make the track status buttons green and to zero it before I push play, but nothing. I want to make some music, but this is holding me back! Can someone help me please?! Thanks!!!

So, I know it got recorded...I just don't know why it's not hardly audible or of good quality. I have been DYING to record some of my music, but I can't get past this simple step of recording additional tracks. I've read the part in the manual (pg 176 to be exact) that explains how to record additional tracks, but I've done all the required steps, and still nothing. I hope you (or someone out there!) can help me. I am so grateful for your help.

Did you go to routing view and make sure you changed your input track to the track your recording on? When you have the track on REC mode you should be able to turn the volume up and down, if you turn it down and still hear sound, you don't have your mike/instrument input correct.

Okay - first of all, THANKS SO MUCH for your help! I was able to get 7 tracks recorded, and it's THRILLING! Now I have another problem if you'd be willing to help me. I can't record tracks 8 and upward. Why is that? When I plug in my microphone, I can't even hear any sound being picked-up at all. I hope you can help! I'm just about to put in some vocals, and I'm dying to hear what it sounds like. THANKS AGAIN! You're amazing!
