Anyone use SM57s in conjunction with condenser?

I am getting another condenser (Rode NT3) for the studio to work with my NT2. But I was wondering if anyone uses SM57s to record acoustic guitar in conjunction with their condensers? If so what do they think? I have heard of acts using 57s for everything in their studio b4, but I am not going that route for various and obvious reasons. Thanks guys!
 
I can imagine the SM57 would be a great stage mic, but I wouldn't want to use it for recording. It would sound pretty boxy on acoustic guitar.
 
I'll use one in a pinch right near the lower quarter of the board (I prefer a SM7b for that purpose, but the 57 is quite reasonable also).

I really like to use the sm57 on acoustic. What some people fail to realize is that a shimmering ringy acoustic tone you get from condensers isnt always whats called for. I like the dryness and the chugalug you get from recording acoustic with an sm57.
 
The 57 is just the same mic as the 58 so, yea....


I do this:
Sm 57 at the 12th fret and the Condenser about 3 feet out from the soundhole.
I love the mix options I can get.
 
I use a 57 with a condenser on a lot of different sources. As was said, the combining of these signals can really net you a great sound if you have control of the phase and do the placement properly.
 
I prefer the beta 57 to the original for most stringed instruments. got more top end. having said that, one of my favorite acoustic guitar tracks that I ever recorded was of a singer songwriter using original 57s on both his vox and guitar.
 
Talk about using an SM57, have you ever heard of Bob Brozman? He uses a SM57 live with no DI, he has a great knowledge of EQ, PA systems and how to get a sound. What he does is move the guitar around while he plays to create effects and to increase and decrease the bass response.

Here is a video, but the sound does not do it justice.

I saw him play live during his tours and the front of house sound was great.

Back to the question, I would usually use a condenser in the studio, my favourite is a AKG C4000b. However if all I had was a SM57, well I would, use it.

I use both a SM57 and a condenser on electric guitar cabs.
