I own a V-amp2. If you search/read around you'll get a sense that it lags behind the Pod in sounds and general popularity, but not too much 
Some people swear by it!
There is a major bias against behringer products and that probably steers away some people too. I don't mind that it's made of plastic but the "guitar body" shape of the module looks kinda toyish. It has no power off button which is a pain because the manual instructs the user not to connect the power to the V-amp directly, gotta use a power strip or something.
It's very inexpensive and has good sounds which make it an absolute winner cost benefit wise.

I have the Vamp pro. I love the clean sounds, but can't really use the gain to record. Way, way noisey!!! Great for preproduction work, though, and I would record the clean sounds. The difference between the Vamp and the Line6 pod is, IMHO, not worth the money. Go with the Vamp.
Also, try to ignore biased opinions of Behringer. It's an old arguement that really doesn't apply to todays products. They are like any other company. They have good and bad products.

I have an original V-AMP, but only use it live. I don't like the way it sounds recorded direct, but it works great live for times when I don't want to lug my amp. I used it this weekend on a gig where 4 of us were crammed onto a tiny stage. I bypass the presets and just work with the amp models. It sounds really nice thru a PA.

Lags Behind???Ah,I guess everyone is entitled to THEIR opinion.I owned the POD for a week and hated it...1 thing and the ONLY 1 thing thats better on the pod than the V-AMP was the noise gate.When I decided to trade in my Plastic Origianl V-amp for a PodXT,I had it for a week and screwed back to Guitar Center and dumped that thing for The V-AMP PRO(rackmount)It's got 24/96 spdif out which I love,the Pod XT does NOT!It was WAY easier to use,the manual for the Pod was like an Aircraft manual of some sort/WEAK!The sound?Please/NO Comparison/V-AMP hands down BUT that would be MY opinion..For Half the price you couldn't find a better deal or sound!I do agree that Behringer makes ALOT of cheapy stuff/no doubt/ BUT the V-AMP PRO is built very nicely indeed!

Am I the only one that has problems with the gain being noisey? I love this V-amp pro, except for the ton of noise when using high gain.

Simply adjust the noise gate on the V Pro for High gain amp sim settings
I too tried the PodXT,,twice!! and the Pod XTL.. Sent them back because imho they didn't match up to my V Pro. I believe it's the best kept secret in the industry

I was willing to spend 700$ on Pod Xt Pro but went with 300$ V-Amp pro instead. I've heard them both in action and liked V-amp tone better. V-Amp sounds more natural and open. Pod Xt sounded overcompressed, somewhat veiled in comparison to V-Amp. V-Amp's efects on the other side are not stellar. I don't like reverb at all but since I use rack verb unit it doesn't bother me too much. High Gain amps sound best with 70-80% gain setting.

I have a V-Amp and agree with Toker41 on the clean sounds. I prefer mildly overdriven, crunch tones to balls-to-the-wall high gain and the V-Amp just sounds more natural than the POD, IMHO. I've been mic'ing my cabinets, but when a A/B them with the V-Amp, I prefer the V-Amp about 90% of the time. I could probably get a better sound if I futz with mic placement, but I usually don't have the patience for it.
For $99.00 it's a steal and a valuable tool. I also had excellent customer support from Behringer when the battery was cutting out on me.

I have a V-amp 2 and I am using it to record the CD I am working on right now. I absolutely love the thing and wish I would've had it for my last CD!
It takes some fine tuning and tweaking to get the ideal tone, but nowhere near the time it takes to screw around with an amp and mic placement. Yes you cant forget about the noise gate adjustment either. So far I'm about 25% finished with my new CD and I am completely happy with what the V Amp has done for me, but maybe this is subject to the type of music you are recording (doom metal / stoner rock in my case).
Here is a great formula for getting a nice fat guitar sound from your V-amp....
Assuming you have four open tracks to work with, record your first take to tracks 1 & 2 by running the V amp's stereo outputs to each track (i.e. left channel to track 1, right to track 2). Then record a second take using the same method to tracks 3 & 4. During playback/mixdown, pan track 1 all the way left, track 2 partially left to about 9 o'clock, track 3 partially right to about 3 o'clock, and track 4 all the way right.
Awesome results! Can't wait till the recording is done so I can give an example....

It's not only the gain; even with the gain all the way down, so far of the ten or so amp settings I've tried, only fuzzbox and a couple others don't suffer from a radically bad amount of noise. It's brutal! I hope I'm doing something horribly wrong and that this machine is capable of being recorded with decent sound. As it is, I don't believe I can take it back as I purchased it new over eBay.

I have a bass V-Amp2 myself. I don't know why I bought it. I got it new from MF with a bunch of other stuff I bought at the time and have used it about 2 times. some fun stuff, but when I have tried to put it in a mix it stands out as lesser quality than the other tracks somehow.

Also, I've run two different guitars through mine and it seems your pickups do make a difference. Either that or maybe the noise just isn't a huge factor to me because of the nature of the Doom metal sound?

I fiind that DL'ing and using the editor is crucial to utilizing the V2 and V Pro's potential.. I was about to send my V Pro back a year or so ago until I got the editor working,, Since then I've tried every amp sim there is on the market and have returned every one of them because I simply found the V Pro to be a better sounding unit.

Are you refering to the PC interface software? I have never bothered to install it. I guess it's a Midi interface with the PC, or USB?
