would this be the ticket for the clicky metal kick drum....but still have some nice lowend to it.... right now I am trying a Shure Beta 52 a ( which I can get much cheaper than the audix).

thoughts/suggestions.

I use it for metal on a near daily basis.
Its the best for the job IMHO.

xfinsterx, looks like a cool project studio you got going on. I have to deal with ceiling fans too...!

Thanx War.

The ceilings are 15 feet high or so. Which makes the fan level out at 14 feet or so.

Ive never had any issues with it in conjunction with tracking.

It does, however, look down right tacky.

Ill take it out one of these days.

Lemme see some pix of your studio War.

T-RAVE, what's the deal with the Beta 52 being cheaper than the D6? Their is only a $10 difference new. I guess you are looking at a used one? I would make an attempt to try out the D6 so that you can compare it. I have seen a lot of people saying on forums that the D6 is their favorite bass drum mic, especially if they were comparing it to an AKG D112 they were previously using, which are pretty popular bass drum mics.

I don't really know how different mics are in that case, though, so I would make sure to do some looking around. It may very well be more of a tuning thing, to start with.

How come no one ever talks about the EV ND868? They're $200 just like basically 9/10 of the other good bass drum mics, and that review said it was one of the best for a general purpose bass drum mic. I just think that's kind of weird hehe.

the audix D6 is great for rock/metal/punk etc. I love the size of it and the response is fairly scooped at 400hz which i love as well.

One con about the D6: it's not as hot of a mic as the beta 52 or the d112.

I've only used the D6 one time..I use a Beta 52 most of the time..either one will get you there.. To me the 52 is a little clearer and the D6 is...hummm..fatter I would say..Cool kik mic :)
