i don't think you are supposed to buy mics from radio shack. Or even carvin for that matter.

What part of 'Harvey was recommending this dude' don't you understand? Of course, YMMV and all that, but Harvey knows his stuff.

werd......

If Harvey reccomends it, thats enuff to at least give it a try......

way back when when Harvey was recommending the Marshall MXLv67, i bought it sight-unseen (with a 30day return policy of course)....havent regretted it once.....

you know, the great thing about this BBS is the tip offs you get to good deals, great bargains......i got a Delta DMP2 new for $79......Joe Meek VC3Q for $99......as a matter of fact i havent made a BAD purchasing decision since ive been hanging around here and have ALWAYS got the best price.......

and if you say you cant buy something cause its from Radio Shack or Wal Mart or is a Behringer, you are doing wrong.....good gear is good gear no matter where it came from, what brand it is, or if it has a goofy name like "Audio Buddy".......

Radioshack

It's funny...people always talk shit on Radioshack. My girlfriend used to work there. So, I'd always buy electronics there because it was cheap (with her discount). I'd think "fucking Optimus, piece of shit!" One day an Optimus CD changer I bought broke so I took it back to be repaired. It came back with a parts list, everything was from Toshiba. It turns out Optimus doesn't make electronics. They just put their name on other companies products, probably thru some kind of license. I have several Radioshack mics. Some of them look a lot like other brand name mics. Makes you wonder....

you guys gotta understand that radio shack's target audience is not home studio goers or professional audio wizzes. I would say their target audience is people that don't know where to go to get a decent microphone so they go to radio shack. Or people like old grandma's that need a microphone for their auction.

I think a lot of people would agree that you just don't buy crap from radio shack period. It's best if you put a little more money into your equipment and buy stuff from a real store. You'll get a better product (I'll put money that they can't top an audix om-5 or a beta 58...those farts that work there don't even know what these mics are) and you won't be made fun of when you play out for having cheap radio shack mics that sound grainy and have low output.

Besides, radio shack kinda has a history of making overpriced crap that breaks all the time. Their cables break, even you said that their cd players break. Shame on you for even buying a cd player.

apush said he bought a cd player from r. shack that broke. what a surprise.

i would also like to point out those little words below the word "microphones" on the homerecording.com/bbs page.

"Which mic should I buy, why can't I buy it at Radio Shack, and which way do I point it?"

the "why can't I buy it at radio shack" is the key words.

back to the topic. No, I've never tried the carvin kickdrum mic and I never will because their little black condenser sucks. Their PA's suck. Their amps suck. I blew up one of their amps just plugging a PA cabinet in. That little condenser they sell that they claim sounds really great broke. The screen popped right off and it sounds really bad. No high end, no gain. So no...I refuse to buy any carvin equipment. You know why they sell their stuff direct? Because they can't find any distributors or retailers that will sell crap. If I was a retailer, I would not want anyone to buy crap from carvin.

Cheeses of Nazareth

You kinda missed the point of what I was trying to say, but obviously didn't relay it properly. The point: RadioShack doesn't make their electronics. If something craps out, in my case, the CD player, it was the manufacturer's fault. Well, I got it repaired for free. Besides, I make it a general rule not to buy anything from Taiwan (Toshiba). That's a whole different story, don't ask.

I have bought some nice sounding, heavy-duty mics from RadioShack that I have used for years without incident, live and studio use. Two of them made by Audio-Technica and one my Shure (check RadioShack's website, jackass). And no, they're not the crappy karaoke style, built-in echo, with attached cable mics either.

P.S.> Sorry about the "jackass" thing.

But I like that reverb mic Idea. I wonder if any decent company has come out with a simmiler design. If made right that design could be a winner.
